I feel sorry for this ditched game and I'm going to try to help you in some areas. It's not like I don't know how close to the heart a certain project can reside, like an extension of your self, a serious work of love and effort.

And I would feel bitter if anyone ever joined me and then abandoned me right at the end, leaving me with half the product I could have had—incomplete songs, broken UI code or something else—and a tantalizing vision of what might have been.

Just make sure that you finish the whole script, okay? And I don't work very fast because of the time involved in making something look really good.

You owe me some serious beta-testing on SoTP when I release it to make up for my lost time.

Oh, and your current logo isn't entirely accurate. Like we discussed before, I would go with taikeinoki (大慶の期) or kankinoki (歓喜の期.)

Right now, it's just kind of hanging there as 喜 and... I'm not really sure of the last one because of the uber-stylized logo that lost a connecting stroke on the first one. 臺? If that's what it is, 臺 isn't a common word though it is a kanji but it looks bad.

When I look at the Japanese title, I go "Huh?" because I can't tell what it means or if you just picked them because they looked similar because of the 吉 radical at the top. That's not good. (Sorry guys, I'm not giving ろうまじ readings for all of these because of some of them have 7 or 10 due to 訓読み and 音読み... )

True, the original 臺 is almost not used at all in Japan. It's more 台. I've seen plenty of 臺(dai)s around in my readings but as 台. I clearly remember that's how I first got to read stuff like 'throne' and 'lighthouse'..

Personally I like the logo 喜臺 as it gives a more old traditional Chinese feeling to it. As it is originally a tabletop RPG, the title conveniently reminds me of the old tabletop games(like shougi and go). They look like it might appear on decorations on celebratory lanterns and ribbons. Also, the concept of Happiness as a supporting object/platform, it just has such a nice ring to it. And somewhat grand at the same time. But if you're aiming for a more Japanese styled title I bet Jinzou's suggestions are better.

Yeah, exactly. I'd change it to 台. Plus, it means a stand or a table or a surface so I guess it kind of puns of tabletop if you're bilingual. Like I said, the ki isn't bad in itself (it's even in kanki), just that last part makes me go: whuh?

That and it's literally joy table... I think to myself "What's a joy table?"

At the moment, I'd like you to refine the character designs by the art direct, and ink and color them - we do NOT want it to look like a typical anime show, but mixing elements of the more adult manga and American artists like Sam Keith:


Which I'll send ASAP. If you have any skill at pixel art, battle animation is needed too (though we have some guys in mind).



To be fair, this was Ben Lehman's logo (not mine), and he deliberately mistranslated it into Mandarin Chinese as 'Joy Table' - that being said, he mentioned that it sort of looked like the Japanese kanji for "Married Bliss" which he found amusing.

I usually only do noncommercial projects... since I open up the assets to the community whenever possible. (/Edit 3% profits, LOL. May as well be my usual gratis work for the community, then.)

Well, I wouldn't feel right using someone else's sprites or character designs, really. I would prefer to make my own and make them mine, so to speak. About the backgrounds... it depends on how good they are and if I find them palatable.

As for battle animations and sprites (I haven't done pixel art in a while... ) I can handle those too in Graphics Gale and any transparencies or effects in other programs.

Do you already have a UI for Bliss Stage?

I'll also need the exact age and height/weight for each character and some rough measurements. As well as a definite answer to whether Simone is male, female, or hermaphroditic.

Ah... yes. It started life as a free fanproject, then Ben Lehman decided to make it in his words "Not so much official, more like it has my blessing for you to sell."

Ah, see, I don't know Chinese, that's why. It's probably fallen out of use or something, cause I don't recognize it, though I know some of the radicals.

Actually, that's like the cutest kanji ever. They look like two little people but it's not. The meaning is double happiness but I wouldn't know how to say it in Japanese...

Update on the full game; it's flowcharted out to the fifth mission.

Bliss Stage is going to be much LESS linear than most mission based RPG's; there's some sequence of events, but mostly just time-sensitive overall objectives.
