Hey, guys! I'm super excited to show you our first colored backgrounds. I won't be releasing all of them, since I want to keep some surprises, but I want to give you guys something to look forward to! So without further ado...

Excuse me. My eyeballs seem to have popped out of my head. I should go find them now.
EDIT: I haven't posted in this thread yet? Shame on me! I thought I did. Oops.
Anyway, I've been watching the project and I'm really excited. I love horses, and I love mythology, and I'm glad to see a story featuring centaurs that doesn't portray them as savage beings (though that is how they tend to be in Greek mythology).
My point is that reinvention is good.

Thanks! I don't know if you've checked out the facebook file where I explain in detail-- but I actually refer back to the Greek legends about centaurs. There are some crimes that their society will not abide, and when a centaur commits those crimes they are cast out. Most centaurs who are ostracized return to their historical homeland-- the plains.Mad Harlequin wrote:EDIT: I haven't posted in this thread yet? Shame on me! I thought I did. Oops.

Incidentally, the plains are the closest to human civilizations, so the only centaurs humans come into contact with are those who are criminals. (Also plays into their reputations as rapists and drunkards-- rape is one of the big "no-nos" that will get you cast out, and centaurs have a biological intolerance to alcohol.)

I haven't seen the file yet, but I'm so glad you're giving a nod to their mythological history. It'll be interesting to see how the characters cope with that.daikiraikimi wrote:Thanks! Thanks for doing then! Hope you have fun on your night swim. I'm attending an anime convention this weekend, after that I'll upload some more sprites I've been coloring. ^_^

Re: The Homestead: A Centaur's Story [Fantasy] [Slice of Lif
Okay, I decided that I actually need to spruce up the sprites I have so far before I start compulsively making new sprites-- especially since I have all the *needed* sprites done except the humans-- therefore I have been designing jewelry and other ornamental clothing for the centaurs.
Because they see beauty in movement, I think there will be a lot of hanging jewelry and flowing fabric. I may also try my hand at some shading. I have sketched out a few designs, and I'll begin adding them to the characters tonight. ^^ I think that will add some needed detail to the sprites, and help them express their personalities more.
I think I'll also make some nicer sprite sheets for them, showing their expressions and whatnot. (And if I finish all that, I may or may not add more poses? I'll cross that bridge when I come to it!) But yeah, I figured it would be better to get all my ducks in a row with the necessary sprites before I started doing all the extra characters, haha.
Oh! And since I haven't uploaded much art-wise in a while, here are some WIP thumbnails from our background artist!

It sounds like you've got all your plans in order. That's great!
And these backgrounds are gorgeous. Are they watercolors?

I believe they're painted on the computer? I'm not sure, though-- you'd have to ask heypetdragon.

Well, they could be digital watercolors.
I will ask, though!

Re: The Homestead: A Centaur's Story [Fantasy] [Slice of Lif
Okay, small catastrophe! My photobucket account is apparently broken and all of the pictures I've uploaded since the start of the project are gone! Not to worry, I have begun the process of re-uploading them. I hope to have the thread back up and running soon, and I'll also post some new sketches-- one of which is the twins in Mongol-style armor.
