This'll go live with 5.6.7 final, but the interested might want to check out the Ren'Py screencast:

I have a question - how do you get your text editor to automatically show the colors of diff stuff like that?

You need a text editor that supports syntax highlighting. The version of SciTE that comes with Ren'Py does... I don't know about other editors.

Ok, I found one but how do I change the default program Ren'Py opens text files with?

I'm not sure how to do it on the mac. IIRC, we use Application Services to open things, so if you make it so that if you can double-click in the finder and open a script file, it should also work in Ren'Py.

This screencast is interesting. Let's put the "visual" into tutorials too :). The filesize seemed a bit big though (too quite a while to download on a broadband connection ô_o). I think Wink has ways to make the final file smaller?

I don't see them. The only option I see that makes the final file smaller is to use a palette. That works, but dropping down to 256 colors makes the visual novel screenshot at the end horribly ugly.

I'd appreciate any suggestions people have, as I agree 7mb is a bit on the big side.

I suppose a flash animation is out of the question? With motion artist or something?

The screencast is a flash animation. If someone wants volunteer to go in and try editing it to make it smaller, I can post up the wink file and the uncompressed swf file.

I was actually thinking of that compression thingie, but you're right... it would butcher the VN shots :/... Mhh... the only thing I can imagine optimizable is the part when you type the code. Delete 2 out 3 frames from this part since we don't really care for *each* character you type. Out of 300 frames, that's 200 frames less. This might help a bit.

Okay, I shrunk down the screencast a bit. It's still not tiny, but it should be better than it was before.
