Creating online games and 3d games

#1 Post by Ryue »

Hi
As a few have indicated on the forums that they are creating also non visual novel games I wonder if anyone is creating online games or 3d games?

If so what engines do you use?

And does anyone use: Byond or blitz3d?

Those two are developement platforms not unlike renpy only for other types of games. Byond is an online game creating toolkit, while blitz 3d is for creating 3d games
(there is also blitzbasic and blitzmax for 2d games....never tried those two though)

I myself have tried both in the past and for 3d games I find blitz3d neat (although if you want connectivity...that is where it gets complicated there).
Byond.....its suitable for top down games in my oppinion, although graphicwise it could have better support there. On the plus for byond is that you don't have to do
anything in regards to connectivity as that all is in and running in the background without you having to think at all about it.

Blender is a 3d modelling program that features a 3d game engine which can be scripted in Python. It's very flexible and powerful but it does take a certain mindset to work with.

You can see a video of a game I did in Blender with a friend a few years back here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bICUTSRTPAA
Mostly just some stupid physics tricks.

I used Blitz3d in the past, but is quite outdated now. The best bet for a 3d game is Unity3d or if you still want to use python you can take a look at Panda3d.

Unity3D, yes, that's the one I'm learning how to use right now, it's pretty amazing what you can do with it!

Using Unity on my project below. You can program in Boo, UnityScript, or, the most robust solution, c#. You should be comfortable with .net as well.
