Ah, a slime tribute! Is the slime giant with tiny people down below or am I imagining things?
Yup, that's little people down there xD Also great work on your interpretation of the theme!! I love willow trees and your character looks lovely :)

@ketskari: WOW!!! This is so nice!! My favorite bits are the red leaves and the figure inside the tree. Beautiful work as usual!

@Katta: Nice owl girl! I love how you did the "feathers" around her eyes too! It would be neat to see a profile view of the same character.

@Harliqueen: Ooh an elf(?) coming out of a tree? Elf-tree person? xD haha well it looks great! also yay for man nipples. always happy when people don't leave them out

Aww, man. I wish I could keep going with this, but I've got too many other projects to work on this week unfortunately :(

I heard "spirits of the forest" and my mind immediately jumped to deer. Deer are scarce in my area so when I see them it's almost as magical as seeing a dolphin (which there are actually a lot more of where I live)!!

AND HOLY MOLY EVERYONE THESE ENTRIES ARE AWESOME!!

----

@Reikun: I can't make up my mind, your spirits seem to border on adorable/terifying. The one in the center looks like he might be going in for the kill, or possibly a hug? WHICH ONE IS IT?

@ketskari: That is a mixture of both creepy and beautiful!!

@Katta: Pretty!! I wonder what the rest of her would look like?

@Harliqueen: So cool!! I wish this was artwork for a VN, cause I want to know more about what the heck is going on in your picture.

@Steamgirl: I love her hair!! How did you do that? Did you use a pattern brush or just do it with quick strokes and a very specific brush style?

@YuukiCrossPudding: Your spirit is SO CUTE! Is she a satyr??

So many entries, this theme is definitely a good one :D

I don't have any tools to draw with me, so it'll be a picture, I hope it's okay? :oops:
Also... am I the only one who thought of Ghibli movies when reading "spirits of the forest"? :) (or is it just because I'm in Japan right now? :lol: )

It was quick strokes utilising pressure sensitivity of my pen, using a normal brush, I did the dark strokes first, then the lighter ones, then the even lighter ones (more sparse and only as a kind of highlight). In SAI the colours blend a little when you go over your strokes, hence the variety of colour. It helped to have a photo reference of a willow tree right next to it. :)

@YuukiCrossPudding
Wow she's gorgeous. I love the dynamic layout and the rough background, it really sets her off well. And the tree-like horns! <3

@sasquatchii
I love your art style so much! That would make a gorgeous logo! Great depth with all the layering. By the way, is the stag meant to be evil or something, his face looks a bit creepy/angry?

@Didules
So cuuuuuuute! I love the little spirits in the Ghibli movies!

I'm going for elf, I just wanted an excuse to draw pointed ears :D And man nipples have to go in!

I'm loving your slime giants! :D And the dark tree-like border really goes well against the bright green.

I have a habit of trying to tell stories through drawings, even my sketches, so I'm glad it piqued your interest! :D

Yours is... just stunning! There is no other word for it. Stags are one of my favourite animals, and your use of colours is incredible.

Wow, great storytelling! Dynamic composition too!
Thank you so much! It was a bit more than I usually do for a warm up, but this week's theme was quite inspiring.

I really love the way your willow spirit is moving, almost like she is a stalk of willow herself!

@ketskari- Wow, the ghost like feel of that spirit really comes through the artwork!

@Katta- I'm loving the owl girl. Clever way you melded the eyes into the human face!

@YuukiCrossPudding- I like the expression on her face, almost like there's a bit of mischief in it.

@Didules - Oh man, they are so cute! :D

Amazing art this week :) Everyone's colour palette choices are gorgeous- I really need to work on that!

@sasquatchii thank you! and no, but I got inspiration for her horns from satyr or faun to be exact
and gosh your art is so good! <33 I love the colors and shapes!

@steamgirl and @harliqueen thanks! sketched it on a whim and I'm pretty happy at how it turns out!

@didules soo cuteee!!! I'm a big fan of ghibli and I wonder why I didn't think about it when I read spirits of the forest!
maybe we should have a week using "Ghibli" as the theme? just a thought!

So here is my first attempt drawing digitally. I haven't taken my Manga Studio Tutorial yet to learn exactly what clip layers are and mask layers and exactly how to really use the powerful software I've got, but I didn't want to procrastinate anymore. I also haven't drawn regularly since about 1998. So I am rusty!

Anyway, here is my first entry.

I plan on starting my Manga Studio udemy course shortly so that I can learn all about the software I'm using!

Cheers!

Haha, we always have something that pops first in our head while reading the theme, according to our state of mind at that point XD That would be an interesting theme, maybe not just now to avoid having things too much "spirit of the forest"-related, but that's definitely a theme we should keep in minde!! :D

Loss it is! I have changed the main post to reflect the loss theme for this week!!

Unfortunately I will not be here next week to change the theme as I'm going on vacation, but feel free to just call them out and roll with whatever :)
