Saltome's gallery.

#1 Post by Saltome »

Damn, that sounds pompous...
Well... among the other things I also dabble into drawing, sketching by hand mostly.
It's nothing special, but it's getting somewhere, so I'd like to share my pride with the world.
All I ask of you is to look and to enjoy. And to discuss and evaluate each picture. Share your opinion, choose favorites and defend them. Etc.

I'll start off by dumping those that I am currently proud of. And will be adding new ones every once in a blue moon, when I feel like drawing.

Maya Fey! :D I'm actually a huge fan of the Ace Attorney series. Hahaha. I see that you have Ema Skye up there, too! Cool!
...and to discuss and evaluate each picture.
Um... Maya Fey seems a little too chubby for me (around the midsection area). You captured her expression perfectly, though! :) Meanwhile, I can't see Ema Skye's face very much, but I've got a feeling that Klavier Gavin is on the other side of that drawing, which is why she's looking like that. Hahaha. Anyway, I think your art is fine, though there's definitely room for improvement! So keep drawing, okay? :D
P.S. I do hope you'll draw Ema and Klavier together someday. <3 Hahaha, I just love those two.

In deed, now that you mention it, I've really messed up Maya's body frame. In all honesty it was a second drawing in a row so I was running a little impatient. I also made her chin way too flat.
Ema is pretty good, if I do say so myself. Just her arm gets a bit slim at the end. Not quite right with some of the proportions either, but overally the picture sticks together.
I can't say whom she's looking at, I don't know this Klavier guy. But after seeing a couple of pictures, I'm already sharing her sentiment.
I actually only know her from the, "Rise from the ashes" episode.

I'll draw more, if you keep looking at them. :D
I may even fulfill your desire. :P
After all, practice makes perfect.

Hi. You did a good job on getting general proportins of bodies and depicting emotions on those drawings.
Unfortunately .There are some mistakes with minor proportions. Do you want to discuss them?

I think that if you would draw shape of body first and then dress it up, it would look a lot better. I do that and it helps me keep the right shape of clothes and proportions.
I reccomend using tutorials made by this guy
http://turtle-arts.deviantart.com/gallery/
if you want to improve drawing body.

Yeah I'd like to hear what you have to say. I'm self taught, and that's how I like it. However, I do a lot of self reflection, so I'm aware of a number of faults in my style, but there is a limit to how much an individual can achieve on their own.

I really like the first drawing, the one of the rose. It's very detailed and well made, and I've always considered roses to be quite difficult to draw.

Small critique: in the Kirigiri drawing, the pleats of the skirt are not too well done. There are a lot of tutorials on drawing pleated skirts, though, so I would suggest you would look into those.

Ah, yes. That one was something else. If I remember correctly it took me 8 to 10 hours. My hand was literally numb after that one.
All in all, good fun. But it's a good thing I found such a good reference picture, that was surprisingly hard. In fact I wanted to draw a rose before, but I couldn't find a good reference picture.

Kyoko--
I can't deny it. One of those days I'm gonna learn how to draw clothes properly, but then that part was never too exciting for me.

Hey everyone, your feedback has been inspirational.
Last night I plucked an old favorite from the back of my mind.
And this time I added some shading. I guess you could take this as my resolution to use shading.
A funny thing about that, I used to do shading back when I used a ball pen. But I found that to be an easy way to ruin hours of hard work.

Hmm... another girl. I'm starting to notice a pattern here.
Oh, well. A cookie to anyone who can tell me about her, without using a search engine.

Let's start with your RandomPerson :) Same way you can analyse any of your works.
Image
There are troubles in understanding of face, body and hand proportions.
Face looks like front view but has signs that it is in 3/4 view. The left and the right halves don't seem to have same width. Same trouble with the eyes of a girl.
Try to construct the whole head, and mean the angle of view.Think about head as a 3d object.Even with manga stylisation.
Articles and illustrations that may help with face proportions ang head angle:

head construction in 3/4 angle:

Hand of that girl is drawn without thinking about it's volume and position of fingers. Try to get a reference photo of your own hand in a same position.
Think about hand as an object in 3dspace.
Here are some explanation illustrations that may help to understand that.

Compare the width of shoulder where arm is connected to it and width of the whole body on the shoulder level In your image
Also notes on children body proportions

intentionally distorted proportions http://rika-dono.deviantart.com/art/2-t ... -494431607
I hope it will help.
Same way you can analyze any of your drawings. What you want to show in a drawing?
Particular emotion on a face of a character?Do research on that face expression (look at the mirror, search on pinterest or via google)
How your character is posed? Research for that pose or watch yourself in a mirror posed that way. Reasearch for body gesture and posture. http://trisketched.deviantart.com/art/H ... -209542995
And so on for a head angle, neck position, hand gestures, foot gestures. Everything.
Study the anatomical construction.
Here also are a good thoughts on it http://trisketched.deviantart.com/art/H ... -539805222
