Too many of them. Essentially almost all popular anime eventually made into manga too. Some of them are Rah-Xe-Phone, Gundam series, Cowboy Bebop, Beyblade series, Digimon series, etc.

In survey, it doesn't matter who's first, doesn't it? Since everyone already have their answer even before they fill the survey. And I bet they answer first before reading someone else's post.

Besides, the main theme of Higurashi is isolated place in rural area of Japan. If the incident happened in Tokyo, I bet Higurashi won't be scary anymore (or at least feel entirely different that it is now)... And since Higurashi is very popular, I'm pretty sure Higurashi is the anime that pop up in most people's mind when answering that question.

BTW, I never watch Seifield. What is that? And what story does it tell?

To be fair, though, it's at least possible for an area that is currently a large city to have started out as a farm town.

I'm guessing, though, that some of these people equated 'rural' with 'dirt roads' rather than farms, which may not actually be incorrect.

In any case, while I may have been the first, considering that nearly everyone after me gave the same answer, I'm kind of wishing I'd said My Neighbor Totoro or some such instead.
