Re: the Evolution of Adventure Games
I'd second that, it does look like a history lesson...one that left out the fun of microwaving hamsters...

Re: general question for the artists among us...
Personally, I think the artists, like most people, would probably appreciate being more a part of the process rather than a step in assembly line. If an artist is shaping how the world and characters appear but doesn't have any influence on the story I think that would limit their interest, unless o...

Re: Fantasia, Realm of Darkness. New Art...!
Tons of endings make for fun, no one is forced to collect them all so I don't see why anyone would complain.

Re: Commercial Worthy Visual Novel
I think several Ren'py games easily approach commercial quality, O3 for instance...the differing factor is that they are not as long as a commercial game.

Re: Upgrading from phpbb2 to phpbb3
I would concur with Py'Tom, my upgrade to Olympus went smoothly aside from issues related to various hacks I had implemented. Unforunately, my host then corrupted my database and somehow managed to block ftp traffic...but the intial upgrade itself went smoothly and we'll see how the transfer to a ne...

Re: Deji's PSD Doll - "Celeste" Beta Version
Very nicely done. I'd say one of the highest quality dolls to be open to the public domain.
I'm trying to use my own visuals, which are much lower quality, else I'd definately put her to use.
Thanks for the excellent contribution!

Re: Question about games (not sure if it's in the right section)
While I like length, I find detail much more interesting. I'd take a short game with 8 endings over a long game with 2 anyday. Ideally, a long game with many branching paths and endings would be great, but...that's a bit harder to pull off.

Re: All-Ages Themes / Topics
I read some time ago in the Elven Relations thread someone commenting on how nice it was to have a game where you could live in the world without the story being centered on some violent climax. This made me ponder making at some point a game in the vein of Kiki's Delivery Service...not the same plo...

Re: Best pen? (and other questions)
I use inkscape, it crushes any other vector program I've used...even Illustrator CS2, though I haven't got my hands on CS3 yet. I'm messing around with coloring in GIMP after linearting with Inkscape but the results aren't great, mostly because I hate shading.

Re: Cyber Troops (vol.1) released
I'd download it and give it a try...but I' m one of those poor saps the others in this thread were talking about. 110 MB would take me all day to download, if even a whole day was enough. Since I get my internet through internet shops and cafes rather than at home, it's not really an option. :/ Coul...

I'm not positive, but I couldn't see why you couldn't place images in a folder as long as you updated the file address... folder/image.jpg as opposed to image.jpg But I've not tried this myself and am hardly an expert. Also, using photoshop just turn on a grid and the cooridate display. That should ...

Re: Writing Method: Linear vs Non-linear
I tend to build around certain scenes. I flesh them out and get a good idea of what I want to happen. Then, when it comes to actually starting the project, I kind of play connect the dots. I start at the beginning and fill in the blank space story-wise as I go. I think it comes from too much Game Ma...
