Re: Visual Novel Let's Plays

YAY EMOTIONS. Anyway the RPG Codex Long Live The Queen LP has devolved into a complete and utter trainwreck. Their hive mind is incredibly incompetent . http://i554.photobucket.com/albums/jj411/Omegadenmad/Battleryousuck2.jpg Those who read LPs over at SA don't really care about being competent at ...

Re: People, VN Makers, and reasonable rates of exchange

I've seen people note here that most first time novelists make on average around $5000. That's not entirely incorrect, but without getting into details about what constitutes that sum it's worth noting that most novelists have contracts based on advances. This means that depending on how well the bo...

Re: What is your religion?

I'm an apatheist. When I was younger I used to be quite the atheist and when I was younger still I used to be very religious. Then after high school ended, I sort of realized I didn't care much about having or not having a religion. This ended up being the denomination that made the most sense for ...

Re: Your Writing Stats

It depends on the genre for me. If it's a murder mystery, I can write around 3000 words per hour because I have read pretty much nothing but murder mysteries since I was little. My brain is more or less wired for that sort of story. Now, any other genre? Around 250 per hour.

Re: What's better: extra art/CGs, voiceovers, theme song?

This is strange. I actually avoid games that are fully voiced. I find that it slows me down because I can read faster than the voice, so I either have to wait for the voice to be over, or I get choppy sentences. I do like when short parts are voiced (like battle cries, greetings, exclamations) Thos...

Re: Different genres

I'd like to see more detective story/mystery games. The medium is really perfect for it. Rex Stout agreed with Dine, he once said something like, "Murders are the only important mysteries" (a la Archie Goodwin). Maybe that's true for a novel that's hundreds of pages, but for a short VN or...

One thing that really makes me laugh like an immature kid about 3D printers is that they really give a new meaning to the question "Would you download a car?"

Re: NaNoReNo 2012

I'm a bit late for entering and doing so at this late stage would be completely insane. Needless to say, I'm doing it. I have started working on my script around five minutes ago. This is going to be fun.

Re: Point of View Switching

I have to warn you that many writers consider switching POV's a very bad move. I have frankly never heard of any writer saying something along those lines. I have heard writers saying that switching points of view is a bad idea if it has no point and is done badly, but then again, that applies to w...

Re: What type of media would be best?

First off: Sorry if I put this in the wrong place. I am writing a fantasy story based a few decades into the future. The idea is overall too long for a regular vn, so if I do go that route it may be broken into several different stages. Another way I could do this is from a webcomic. Finally there'...

Re: Paying for an artist? Stop! Read this first.

I don't see anything wrong with using those resources, but I would say you need to be careful when using them. It's perfectly fine to use a pre-made background if it fits your story perfectly and feels natural. Does the stock art feel like it belongs in the story? Then there's nothing wrong with it....

Re: Is it possible...

I remember some time back, someone suggested that you make a customizable lead character. You could pick looks, personality traits, etc. The entire story afterwards would be linear, and changes in the story would depend on the type of character you created. So if you said your PC was shy during cha...

Re: A visual novel with metal music.

For one thing, good(and cheap) metal music can be hard to find, so that's probably why. Metal music would probably work for a climactic scene without much trouble, assuming the writing itself is over the top enough. But it's probably not what you would want to use during less dramatic scenes, for ob...
