Re: Non-anime, non-romance VN?
Switchable art styles... While this opens a ton of possibilities, it might have a major drawback: it would remove the "true" feeling of playing the game. Multiple choices define scenario paths and events that occur, so the question of "did this or that REALLY happen" is already hanging in the balanc...

Re: Non-anime, non-romance VN?
Whoa. This "Metro" VN should definitely be featured among the best of the best - completed or not, just for the concept. Rarely are animorphs done well and without TOO much humanization. Disney, go sit in the corner. Hum. Do we even HAVE any sort of "most original picks" list on this forum, showcasi...

Re: Non-anime, non-romance VN?
What short term would you opt for, then, Auro-Cyanide , to describe fully colored (optionally: shaded) hand-drawn illustrations of characters, featuring bodily and facial proportions most commonly found in Asian animated features? As opposed to drawings featured in American or European comics, techn...

Re: how do i make a game?
A .zip is fine for Windows machines as well - since W Vista they natively unzip archives. However, it seems to me that mangalover45 lacks general skills, which might be required to successfully "make a game". For example, it's of paramount importance to specify errors and problems in more detail, th...

Re: Non-anime, non-romance VN?
Actually, I'm not STRICTLY looking for an audience. I was just wondering IF some audience might receive my project well, it being what it is. I can't make it anime-ish (oh come on, an "animated" character portrait, drawn in full-color manga style, can - to convey the idea easily - be called "anime-s...

Re: how do i make a game?
This thread makes me wonder. Wouldn't it be perfect for the site's FAQ to feature the currently best / most popular VN/RPG engines, highlighting their pros and cons (and perhaps even development status) for newbies to peruse?

Non-anime, non-romance VN?
Two weeks ago, I was about to abandon my adventure game concept, since it was written as a mod for The Witcher I, which is pretty much dead now. However, I followed some friends' encouragement, went looking for narration-and-dialogue based adventure game engines, and ended up on Visual Novels and Re...

Re: New to Ren'Py, Issues with NVL and Slowtext?
Here we go. I changed the character definitions to define ... , as your $ Python calls weren't visible by the scene code. I'm not quite sure what's the rule on that. And, I added kind=nvl to your eslow character, since that's probably what you wanted... init: define e = Character(None, color="#c8ffc...

Re: Custom Preference to Toggle Minigames?
Dive into your game's screens.rpy file. You should have no problem adding another option in the screen preferences: section. You can't add your own Preference("minigames",...) setting, but you can SetVariable(var, value) as a button's action.

Re: Question about files.
Torrent? From one PC to another within the same house? Really? That'll take ages, instead of minutes, if the network isn't properly set up for local pc-to-pc access and you end up routing the files through your ISP. You'll sooner just split the files into folder1 folder2 folder3 (each less than 8 GB...

Re: Trouble with Coding
@ShuraORandom, always put your code in ... tags when posting on the forum. Otherwise your indentation will not show, and since it's the main problem, it should definitely be preserved. So, either use the code tags, or use another code pasting service, like pastebin.com . And don't be shy with your f...

complex inventory screen: "tabs", reused buttons...
Final piece of noobishness from me tonight: I need a three-tier inventory viewing system, with section tabs above, item links down the left lane, and a big text box smack in the middle. Tabs select an item group, items clicked show a big description for the item. Normally, I'd create several tabs fo...

Re: screen actions that invoke conversations
Perhaps I should just stick to disabling the Save feature mid-conversation, seeing as players have frequent "safe spots" back on the main game screen..? Are Calls to conversation sequences safe otherwise?

screen actions that invoke conversations
In a Screen definition, there was only Jump(label) available, so I permitted myself to add a Call(label) action. However, a conversation thus triggered doesn't seem to save at all - after a load I'm back at the "main game" screen. So, here comes the question. What's the proper way of making a "main ...

Re: Question: Will renpy ever have a GUI?
Not to hijack a thread, but I often find myself lacking a simple timed reload, basing on changed source files. I'm sure many developers would appreciate being able to open a particularly nasty screen definition or code bit or animation sequence and just hit Ctrl+S in their editor, and have Ren'Py im...
