Re: Voice Acting: Yeah or Nay?

The World Ends With You had the right amount of voice acting. NO WORDS! Just laughter, grunts, that kind of sounds. These added some character, but weren't annoying. Main thing I have against voice acting is that I can read about 80 pages of a regular softcover book in an hour. Unless your VN is a r...

Re: How little is too little internal dialog?

Hemingway did just fine without any internal dialogue.

Re: Most Well Written Game You've Ever Played?

Lots of great responses here, that I totally agree with! Incidentally, for any Planescape: Torment fans, this is an article that discusses how the game was written. http://www.rpgwatch.com/show/article?articleid=55&ref=0&id=208 It includes a characters sheet for Ravel in a word document, that shows...

Re: Artschools..

We had some compulsory drawing lessons when I was studying architecture. I liked those a lot and started painting on the side. Recently I came to the conclusion that while I like architecture in general, it would be a lousy career choice for me. So I quit and started to work on putting together a le...

Re: A few questions

The Freakangels webcomic is done so that the lineart is done in pencil and then scanned, flatted, coloured, textured and shaded. They put up an in-depth overview of the whole process . http://www.freakangels.com/comics/FAInt0004-1.jpg Re:Mind is also done like that. He started with a series of tutor...

Re: Dialogue-based launcher.

Honestly, I think the current launcher could use some typographical adjustments (a nicer sans serif for the links, and another shade of blue while at it) and it'll be good to go. Not once have I thought it ugly and even more importantly, it has never gotten in my way!

Saw this behavior in some Japanese Eroge I can't recall and I kinda liked fading background during interaction and how it made the character the focal point so I desided to immitate the said behaviour. Re: using copyrighted assets in noncommercial works

I realize that sound effects are similarly copyrighted assets, but I wonder, how likely is it that someone would notice? Especially if using original art/ story/ music. Because my fantasy adventure needs battle noises and where am I supposed to get the grunts of an angry ogre? Can't really hire a so...

Re: Player Interaction in a Story

I wish more VNs would try writing dialogue the same way classic RPGs do it. Fallout, Planescape Torment, Baldur's Gate.. all have examples of dialogue where the choices within the dialogue have an effect on where the story will branch to from here on. No, you don't know where it will lead you, but "...

Re: Why, as a game developer, you NEED your own website

I think tumblr is good enough for my purposes. I mean, it allows for pages with unique addresses and my blog is there. Until I complete my first commercial game, that'll do, right?

Re: Sprite Poses

Hotel Dusk feels like the characters were rotoscoped, not just drawn. I think they were: http://youtu.be/6shp3Qm2Jl0 But It doesnt fail to be a great example anyway... Oh, I didn't mean it like that. It's a very good example and I even think that rotoscoping for a VN is not too far out there. Basic...

Re: Sprite Poses

To answer that, I would have to go through your VN like a movie director, looking for spots where the actors seem wooden or lacking in character. A character has some expressions dictated by his or her general personality type, but not all of them will be shown during the course of the story. My own...

Re: Roof & Dragon: visual novel in 24 hours!

Browsing VNDB earlier today, I discovered that my sole contribution to the world of visual novels has been translated into russian . I feel so flattered.. :D I haven't sadly finished any of my other projects yet, not even the unannounced NaNoReMo projects. My art skills are way higher now, as my blo...
