I actually use debian, the current ren'py package is 6.99.12.2 but ren'py don't depend on the *nix directory system, so one can run more recent ren'py sdk's in their home directory, e.g. ~/opt/renpy-7.x.x I have ren'py 6.99 globally installed from the debian package together with 7.2.1 locally insta...

as a really old-timer (albeit not precisely active...) I fondly remember wen I discovered ren'py (was version 1 or 2, don't remember now...) and perhaps I have given the most important contribuition (suggesting the IF community successfully recipe of a centralised forum and game repository/indexing)...

well, I don't hide that I like more your interior design than the exterior one, but for obvious reasons, this isn't a bad thing. (to be clear, my country's exterior design must account for the, more often millennia than centuries, of layers of prior architecture & urbanistic)

I tested bircoph's suggestion, works but has an issue of not founding a file named click.ogg (I suspect is the usual cASE sENSitIVenESs issue...) whose crash the game; temporarily moved from non-working dir to the quasi-working directory, anyway.
