Re: New to VNs but not to Game Dev...looking for advice.

It looks like your work-in-progress is currently on Kickstarter under the title "Visual novel inspired by Sleeping Beauty." I know that some people here on Lemma Soft have created crowdfunding campaigns, and a number of them have succeeded. Be sure to talk with them about how they've attracted an au...

Re: Ideas Dump

"The pressure's on now." Here are a couple visual novel ideas in which the protagonist has limited resources, or they have to act in a hurry. * The characters are isolated in an emergency situation. But wait, they have mobile phones! However, their batteries are running low. They can only justify ca...

Jon unknowingly gets dragged into the shenanigans of a group of girls with superpowers: Billionaire daughter-genius Emma L. Brown, nimble-runner Sonia Rutherford, and super-star Mary Carpenter. Jon’s life will only get more complicated, but despite all of that, he ends up growing close to each of t...

Re: The Cold Case of Noella Bejerot Demo Trailer! [Mystery][Comedy]

I think you'll benefit if you can sum up your project in a few words. Write several short, appealing descriptions of your story. Think about who might enjoy it, and what sort of things they enjoy. Look at how other video game developers have pitched their projects. (Recently I learned about an indie...

Re: Ideas Dump

"What's it like to go on a date?" Write about characters going out together. Tell a story about their experiences during a single day, or just a handful of dates. Where do they go, and what do they think about their interaction? This story can include conflict, humor, fantastic elements, or anything...

Re: Doki Doki Literature Club! [BxG] Free Download

Doki Doki Literature Club has now reached as far as IGN's Game Scoop podcast . I follow this show more often than not, since it sometimes talks about the latest AAA video games, but also mostly-forgotten Sega Saturn shmups or mid-1980s arcade titles. I figured that they might eventually talk about ...

Re: What Do YOU Prefer When Playing a VN?

The art which I like is usually cartoonish -- just exaggerated enough, not too realistic. It implies that the story is amusing. (There have been times when I have been afraid of detailed / photorealistic characters. I have wondered "will they beat me up because I sometimes like feminine things?") Se...

Re: Undeclared: Higher Education [College, Romance, Comedy][BXG]

It looks like your Kickstarter is starting off well. I take it that you have already done research on both successful and failed crowdfunding creative projects. I recommend continuing to learn more about this topic. Take notes on Kickstarted games, comics, etc., no matter whether they became interne...

Re: Unconventional Commercial VNs? (... like mine)

I looked at the art style of Near Dawn, and thought about whether I like it. My first reaction when I saw the drawings was "they look similar to Daniel Clowes' comics... I think?" (I could be way off.) My second reaction was "the characters seem depressed or anxious." If these are the predominant mo...

Re: Carrot Cafe! [BxG][GxG][18+/AO][VN]

The premise reminded me of the Pia Carrot franchise. It began during the mid-'90s, and it had a gender flip spinoff called Prince Pia Carrot a couple years ago. Your Kickstarter states that most of the heroines are between ages eighteen and twenty. However, one character (Chiyo) is thirty-four. Will...

Re: The Tasks of Messengers & Guardians [BxG] [Long][Fantasy]

I like how the art is different. (I'm trying to think of something to compare it to... but I'm drawing a blank.) One small, personal concern: I'm not sure if I like it when the characters show their teeth. It's not *that* realistic, but I think it seems unsettling. Have you ever wished that all your...

Re: Miss Bullard’s School for Former Lades [Lesbian/Victorian/Fantasy/Mystery] Now on Kickstarter

Today, I tried searching for the phrase visual novel on Kickstarter.com. Miss Bullard’s School did not appear in the search results. I don't know why this happened. I like the drawings for this project. That said, since it's a supernatural Victorian era world, I wonder if another art style might be ...

Basically, they are a "hidden" species that lives in harmony with nature and prefers not to let their existence be known. My questions are: why and how would they keep their species a secret from humans? Every reason I can think of is cliché and uninteresting. A couple possibilities: 1. The hidden ...

Re: Can I really call my game a VN?

So, I would like to know what you guys expect from a VN? Does my game consider as one? If you want to call your project a visual novel, then my response would be "sure, go ahead." If you prefer some other term (story-driven game? narrative game?), then I will continue to say "sure, go ahead." I wan...

Re: Love Hues [LGBT+ friendly][College-Life][Mystery][Rating TBD/18+ for now]

If a visual novel features complex gameplay, then I won't worry too much if the protagonist has a personality. However, if it's a story with occasional choices, then I will prefer a protag who is a memorable character. In other words, a person who is flawed, thoughtful, amusing, proactive, and so on...
