Re: Would this be possible?

I don't quite know the full extent of the functionality behind renpy.random.choice, but if it is truly as random as the name implies, that's not quite what I'm going for. It wouldn't be all that realistic if every time a player left and returned to a particular location, no matter how much time has...

Re: The Order Of Choices

Being a methodological player, I would prefer to know in advance which choices belong to an alignment or another, so ordered would be ideal. That's because I would try all the possibilities anyway. Maybe the right question is whether or not you are willing to let the player assume control of the sit...

Re: VNs slowly gaining Western popularity?

On what basis can you safely say that Harry Potter didn't bring people to reading fiction? It's very natural to explore more about something you liked (genre, medium, author...), so you can maybe have the same experience again. The most mainstream VNs have these effects, just not the way we might e...

Re: VNs slowly gaining Western popularity?

Why are casual gamers different? They are exactly the type of audience I think we should be looking at. Going after hard core gamers is pointless. They have their games and they will stubbornly stick by them. However there is a great need for story driven games and the gamer market is only expandin...

Re: How many facial expressions needed, and how to tag them?

Thanks for the reply :D The problem is, a game I'm making is a system without stories yet, and it requires images for debugging and development of the system. Therefore, I just need images which will be used in most possible situations. Couldn't you prototype it? I mean rough sketches and/or dummy ...

Re: What is your type?

I don't usually have any preferences or dislikes regarding fictional girls, excluding some annoying archetypes (specially those silly teenagers who act like little girls and refuse to grow up). In real life, I'm more attracted to the shy or mysterious ones. She doesn't have to be "smart" i...

Re: Creating a Fictional World

These are very good tips on fictional world building. If you are unsure how to start anything, just think about the role of the world within your story. If your main character is a rebel, fighting against the system, then an authoritative government quickly comes to mind. It can make the reader feel...

Re: VNs slowly gaining Western popularity?

Do you know what is kind of funny? Visual Novels are trying to gain recognition as games. Games are trying to gain recognition as an art form. It's like the pyramid of needs. Though given visual novels close ties to literacy, maybe we are a lot closer to art than regular games are? That's very inte...

Re: What was the first visual novel you played?

While not my first, 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors was the one which made me "aware" of visual novels and had me looking for more. Sure, there was Phoenix Wright before, but at the time I thought it was more like a big puzzle game than a visual novel. Afterwards came Saya no Uta.

Re: [SciFi|Adventure]Adrift

I've been reading Lemma Soft Forums for a while, but now there was no choice: I just had to register and comment directly in this thread. The Dreaming had already impressed me, so Adrift came as a thunderbolt of surprise. And I'm not talking about "Oh, they are good... for OELVN", no, they...
