The idea seems solid, and it seems like there could be lots of potential. As LateWhiteRabbit said, asking yourself the hard questions, and finding answers that are reasonable seems to be the best way to fill any cracks. I hope you continue it!

My influences come from all the big name shounen anime, like Naruto, Shaman King, Bleach, and Inuyasha- mostly stuff I watched when I was younger, as well as Ken Akamatsu (Negima, Love Hina), and some random artists I've seen here and there online. My influences are pretty generic, I would say.

My only concern is that the reader will be bored by the events leading to the climax. I don't think any relevant event in a story will be boring to the reader if there is a sense of accumulating tension in it.
