Re: Essential features for EVEN: a new visual novel engine

While the GUI interface was pretty cool, I also really like being able to just read through my script easily. What would be helpful, and perhaps an easier first step, is a 'live feed' of just what you're programming, or something that you could update in the corner of your screen. I admit I haven't ...

Ren'py mentioned on the Torontoist!

Did a quick scan, didn't see this posted anywhere. Here's a link to the article , which is about Christine Love and how she'll be speaking at the Toronto Reference Library on the 16th. There's a mention of Ren'Py about half way down the article, with a link to the main site. Pretty neat! (Hopefully ...

Re: flaws in my sotory (as a visual novel)

If Ao is secretly in love with a fictional female warrior, I'm not quite sure why he's falling for your heroine. Why are they travelling together in the first place? If Ao's ideal is a strong warrior woman, will Kyoko eventually fill that roll, but in her own way? What I mean is, will she find the s...

Re: Where do you buy tablets anyway?!

I know you found your tablet, but I wanted to offer a couple more Canadian stores in case anyone looks through this thread later for answers... NCIX has them, both online and in stores. If you are out west, London Drugs also carries wacoms. I believe Costco also carries them? I think they're on the ...

Re: Art Learning Resources

You mention a program related to zbrush, but don't mention zbrush. I'm pretty sure that it's one of the high res modelling programs of choice right now. If anyone does want to learn how to model or animate in 3D, I like Digital Tutors . It has some free lessons, and many more that you can access if ...

Re: Writing about cancer...

Chemo does horrible things to you. It is basically carpet bombing your body with radiation, killing healthy and cancerous cells alike in order to try and get all the cancer. It has a lot of side effects that make you feel even worse than the cancer. And if the chance of killing the cancer is low, o...

Re: Writing about cancer...

I wasn't thinking of including treatment. My idea was it would either be so far gone that chemo would ruin the quality of life she has left and probably wouldn't work, or she would make the decision that she wouldn't want to go through something as hard as chemotherapy and such and just spend her l...

Re: Writing about cancer...

Cancer is such a hot button topic, nearly everyone has been affected by it in some way. I think you could use it, but you really would have to know more about whatever kind you're using. Perhaps if you look through all the different ones, you could find something that would work? I'm pretty sure the...

Re: Pen Tablet Recommendations?

The screen does scar with time but that is the cost getting physical. I would recommend a Nu Shield screen protector . When I bought my cintiq, I didn't use it until the screen protector came. I spent all of that money on something that I have to be able to see through, then I want something to mak...

Re: Pen Tablet Recommendations?

I've had a wacom graphire tablet, an intuos3, and now a cintiq for work. And I have to say, as annoying as the drivers can sometimes be, they are *amazing*. I would be interested in trying other tablets to see what they're like, but I have to agree with LWR here and say that wacom is most definitely...

Re: Animation Dump!

I'm using Photoshop, drawing every frame on a different layer, then jumping to Imageready and alternating the visibility of the layers in sequence. I think it's probably not how you're supposed to use Imageready, but it helps me quickly fix problems that I find when I play the sequence. Aaah, right...

Forgive me for double-posting but I got all excited and stayed up late to make another animation :D It was supposed to be like the assignment, but it ended up getting a little too "hot blooded" http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/7157/redball2.gif I know it doesn't really make sense ...

Re: Art Learning Resources

Can't forget animation books! Books to help with animation: The Animator's Survival Kit . This one has lots of great advice in it, as well as many many walk cycles. Preston Blair's 'How To' Animation book on amazon, and here's a blog post with scans of the original book. The 100 000$ animation cours...
