Re: Notepad++ syntax highlighting
Shame that a free open source program like Notepad++ wouldn't be more modular. I'm a noob and a sloppy coder so I've come to rely pretty heavily on that visual cue. I might take the middle road and use what you've taught me to customize the existing Python template to add a few Ren'Py commands. Than...

Re: How to Not Piss Off Your Readers
Looks to me like this thread is more about Bioware's game than the actual topic. Although I haven't played ME3 I do have an opinion on the topic title. If you don't piss off at least one of your readers you're probably not trying hard enough. Art should make you think and should spark conversation a...

Re: strategy for episodic content
A patcher would be absolutely ideal. If this is in the roadmap then I will continue this would-be episodic project without fear.

strategy for episodic content
As a motivator and a means of breaking up the workload into chunks, I'm interested in developing an episodic game where I will release each chapter individually as I write them. I've figured out how to do this technologically - I plan to start with a main menu that lets users select the chapter, ver...

Re: Notepad++ syntax highlighting
Your suggestions are close to perfect and give me everything I need except for two things - highlighting inside curly braces and an indentation guide. By curly braces, I'm referring to the modifiers for style and pauses. Maybe this isn't possible since those modifiers fall within double quotes. In a...

Re: using copyrighted assets in noncommercial works
This is a very sobering conversation. Shame that my labour of love won't be seen as such by the IP owners. Well, I find this both frustrating and liberating. I think I should kiss my fanfic idea goodbye, but that just means I'm no longer constrained by other people's works. Assuming I keep going ful...

Re: Notepad++ syntax highlighting
Many thanks, Susan. Can you verify from this screenshot that I followed your instructions correctly? Many of the commands are highlighted now but seemingly not all of them.

Or was this just the first step and you'll be providing more files?

Notepad++ syntax highlighting
Just wondering whether anyone has a better solution for syntax highlighting in Notepad++ on Windows. I've been choosing Python as my language which seems to change the colour of maybe half the commands I'm entering. Is there a Ren'Py-specific setting I can create or install that will change the colo...

Re: using copyrighted assets in noncommercial works
I'm loving this discussion since many people are asking questions floating around in my mind. Thanks again, everyone. I'm sincerely considering forgoing the screenshots now and simply writing something original. Maybe I'll design the game to occur in fewer locations and toss a few bucks someone's wa...

Re: Hello from a VNoob
Hehe I really appreciate your positivity and encouragement. I feel sheepish for publishing something so childish now - it was just my first attempt at trying a few commands. This really seems to be a supportive community.

I just mean to say that I love Freelancer. I must have put 40 hours into that game over the years. I love all of Chris Roberts' games.LVUER wrote:Huh!?asciibard wrote:I adore the everliving snot out of that game.LVUER wrote:Just finished playing Freelancer.

Re: using copyrighted assets in noncommercial works
Great advice, guys. What I've written so far has been generic enough that it doesn't have to be a Warcraft story. I was just hoping to take a shortcut on art by taking my own screenshots.
I might still do it in the end. I could always take out the screenshots if Blizzard objects.
