Re: GLBT writing tips/resources

Thanks for this topic! Being offensive is near the top of my "really stupid writing mistakes I'm afraid of" list, so this is a big help.

Re: Lilac Melody [GxG] [Romance, school life, slice of life]

Yuri for women, so vaguely like Aoi Hana? Sounds interesting!

I'm not sure which of the two given art styles you're using, but I think I'd enjoy the full-size / "traditional" style over the chibi.

Re: Wishful Dreams - [Fantasy][Horror][Survival][+16/18]

This looks pretty interesting. The system of giving up various traits sounds like it could add a lot of depth, or possibly complication depending on how it's handled. Just as a personal preference, I think there's way more than enough rape in anime and VNs as is, so I don't much like the idea of inc...

Re: Dialect/Accent fun!

You found something nice here, panda. It goes and replaces words with the slang of the dialect you choose, inserts stuff, changes grammar as needed... I can't imagine how long it took to compile everything. While I don't think anyone should write their scripts and rely on this to translate all of i...

Re: The most innocent-type of girl you can think of [survey]

My image of a lot of these characters make me think of a very light-hearted work, and in that case, I'd pick the hyperactive tomboy as the most likely to be the culprit. Least likely is harder, since most of them don't seem to fit the image of doing something "bad", even for the sake of a ...

Re: That one thing that really irks you in a game?

When there's a significant delay between the choice that triggers a bad end and the end itself. One example of this I just encountered in a JVN called Soul Link. There's one sequence where you are given 7 rooms to choose from, you can visit and re-visit them in any order you wish, and you have 20 &q...

Re: Gay Option

I definitely agree that there should be more gay/trans options or at least inclusiveness in VNs. I strongly considered having a same-sex route in my VN but it just didn't work with the story and characters I've set up. I feel like given the tendency for a vocal minority of fans to take issue with in...

Re: Question about Names and Diction

But why give the syllables when the name's literal meaning could be given? Why create a story when you could summarize the theme in a sentence or two? How many readers are likely to know their meanings? If their meanings are not known, what is to prevent one from producing a string of syllables and...

Re: Question about Names and Diction

Those are more like literal English translations of Native American names. I was thinking more along the lines of Achak, Etchemin, Takhi, etc.

Re: Question about Names and Diction

A couple things on the subject of naming. I personally don't think that names like "Sweet Earth" work well, because they're not names. It breaks immersion and just draws my attention to question what the creator was thinking. At least, with a serious story it does. If your story is very li...

Re: Writing Tip: Writing HORROR

To answer your question on the type of horror; if you have graphic depictions of horrible things happening in your story, it's going to be called Horror, no matter what the story actually is. As it is, finish the story first . That's the important part. You can figure out what to call it afterwards...

Re: Writing Tip: Writing HORROR

I don't think one element has been addressed much so far: If fighting the monster is an option, it's action. If fighting the monster isn't an option, it's horror. A variation I'm wondering about: What if fighting is an option, but the protagonist doesn't know if he really needs to fight, and there ...

Re: Crimson Rafflesia [Thriller|Psyche|Mystery|Supernatural|

The art definitely looks good. The main character also seems pretty interesting.

You're focusing a lot on color here -- is this just to add flavor, or will color have an important role in the story or imagery?

I'm curious -- since it's at a music school, does music or musical knowledge factor into the story at all?
