Re: Are they common rules about creating Backgrounds for VN?
@LateWhiteRabbit. It wasn't to offense you either. I learned from a lot of your post on this forum, I think this video is bad the fact that perspective is badly teached commonly don't really change it. Last time I learn it in an art school was around 10 years ago but it was already far better than t...

Re: Are they common rules about creating Backgrounds for VN?
Well the link is more or less bad. First this perspective is physically wrong it's 15 century perspective theory. Real eyes bein spheres, perspective is spherical too. You can see in deformation with a camera lens that have the same distortion than the eyes and how most of the line are curved on the...

Re: Are they common rules about creating Backgrounds for VN?
Ok thx. I'm pretty well versed in perspective and I'm pretty sure that traditionally the horizon line is supposed to be at the height of the eyes of the painter/camera. So for integrated sprites I had in mind after reading Tempus comment to use the same camera height and angles, if I use integrated ...

Re: Are they common rules about creating Backgrounds for VN?
Thx. I wasn't aware of these changes. I will be going for the old school, place on background and speaker on foreground. I didn't think of the GUI and I guess, even with an old school VN in mind, most of your advise may still apply. They surely will for special scene since I had in mind to put chara...

Are they common rules about creating Backgrounds for VN?
I am starting to do some 3d background for a VN that I have in mind and I am wondering if the genre has developed some rules about doing background that I should know.

Re: On tracing?
You can trace public domain image, your own photos or 3d renders. Tracing was a common practice for painters in art history like for example Vermeer who used the camera obscura, an ancestor of modern camera, to trace some of his paintings. They just kept it for themselves to avoid critics of other p...

Re: A Massive, Collaborative Visual Novel?
Agree. Managing artists (and creative workers in general) is like herding a group of cats. We can't really just gather a lot of them in a big project and hope everything goes well. :D A selection process for suitable candidates is necessary, along with establishment of a system that enable the shar...

Re: Different artstyles, storytelling and commercial viabili
Quality seams to decay fron left to right. The left looks cool, the centre looks too sketchy, the right looks empty and unfinished, almost childish. The closer the "camera" the more detailed it should be and here it's the contrary. The light is important in the mood on the left part and be...

Re: Would making an anime fan-game be illegal?
It depend on country regulation. For example USA has some law that protect fan art if there are not for making money. (frendly use) French have law that make it legal if it's an humoristic parody derivation. Communist country may not recognise intellectual property at all. In clear if you distribute...

Re: What do you with a set of characters but no story?
Associate yourself with a scenarist? Better do a part of the work well than try to do everything badly yourself is sometime a good idea. If you can write yourself and the only thing you miss is the story that may be a good option. He read what you wrote about your univers, creat a story that make se...

Re: A Massive, Collaborative Visual Novel?
If there is so many little project it is partly because a lot of maker have a story they want to tell. Strangely I don't see that as a problem in a mass creator project. Every one can have his side story across the meta-plot. For this, the more scenarist and the more programmer the better. The Probl...
