Re: Get that thing off your chest... Now...
All this talk of graphic design reminds me of a potential client I had a couple of years back. He asked for a website based on a Powerpoint slide which he had exported as HTML. It had some generic images, but I was assured that they owned them in spite of how familiar they looked. In the end, I just...

Re: Do you know what your bloodtype is?
I'm O+, like so many people here. I used to give blood, so they told me. My wife is the same, which is an odd coincidence, so I suppose my daughter stands a good chance of being O+ too.

Re: your early stories
In school (so aged 7 or so) I started writing a series of stories about a character called "Anthony the Explorer" who flew a space-ship and discovered new planets. That went on for years, I think. Classmates used to crop up as assistants (possible Doctor Who influence?) and would usually b...

It's interesting that Asperger's Syndrome and autism came up; I was reading a paper on how web-forums and chat force a specific set of issues on us which mimic autistic-spectrum disorders. Essentially, they strip the text of emotional context, so we are forced to guess at meanings and important visu...

Re: Sims Screenshots Traced For Backgrounds?
Generally speaking, you don't mess with big companies like EA (someone should have told that to Zynga) and forget everything that the law tells you about 'fair use' if you are worried about getting sued. This has been mentioned. To take a more reasoned approach, I'd say not to worry too much if you ...

Re: Have suggestions for male fashion resources/references?
Looking through these sites... I still feel like mens clothes aren't nearly as cool as girl clothes... but I guess that's lucky for me, seeing as I'm a girl. :P Yeah, tell me about it. As a man, I pay twice as much or more to get anything out of the ordinary. A woman can pick up a pair of tall boot...

i'm so incredibly pissed off right now. my boyfriend, who i have not seen in two months, had to evacuate his house due to the wildfires raging through oklahoma as we speak. theres a large chance that the fire will reach his home, especially because he lives in the woods. and so many other people ar...

Re: How do you make long story more concise?
I have never heard concise, a word which literally comes from the Latin for 'cut short', used to mean "padded out with useless text, but in a more acceptable way". Padding is the opposite of concision. A story should be as long as it takes to tell. If you try to extend it, you lose quality...

Re: How do you make long story more concise?
How do you make a long story more concise? Look at your story, work out which bits the player will skip and cut them. Look for any part that doesn't move the story forward and cut it. Find every stage-direction and work out if you can possibly remove it, using art instead. Find every time that a cha...

Re: Human immortality through artificial bodies?
My understanding is that the cellular senescence (the finite lifespan of cells) in humans is related to our tendency to develop cancer. Cancer cells lack the 'die after a finite lifespan' function that normal cells have and so they grow and divide exponentially. Worse than this is that the telomeres...

Re: Steam Greenlight
Well, given that Steam is moving into Linux some time in Autumn, I think there my be a certain attraction to Ren'Py as a Linux-ready engine, which might not hurt. I have also generally avoided buying indie games on Steam if they are available direct from the creators. That's how I have ended up with...

I hate the fact that I can't use the word 'anorexia' without people thinking 'anorexia nervosa' because that's the only kind most people have heard of.

I have malabsorption issues, together with some pretty bad nausea. I thought I'd shifted it, as I'd been able to eat for the past three weeks, but it hit full-force again today. I'm already on an exclusion diet, which made me lose weight, then I have become anaemic in a bad way. As anyone who's trie...

Re: Info on Alcohol?
My experience is of working in a 'flair' bar, so you had to know half a dozen tricks (throwing and catching bottles, etc.) and a list of about thirty cocktails off by heart before you could work on the bar. It's actually a harder job than it looks (especially in a bar where dancing unselfconsciously...

Re: That one thing that really irks you in a game?
My number one pet peeve always used to be poor spelling, punctuation and grammar. If it's only slightly off or due to poor translations ("Danger: Wolves are bellicose") and has a good story, I can often overlook it. Bad grammar and poor storytelling and I'll uninstall it. My new issue, whi...
