Re: When you were a child...

I wanted to be the Milky-Bar Kid.

I never got to be, but I did go off to drama-school when I was 18 and worked in theatre for a while. Never made as much money in the theatre as it cost to attend drama-school, but it actually helped a lot when I went into game-development to have that background.

Re: [dischan] Juniper's Knot (2012)

I was already working on a VN when I came across this by accident on IndieDB (Desura). I kind of like this... kinetic novel... (I think that's the right term) I have to say that the music might be the most impressive part of it for me. Music is powerful when used right and this uses it right. When s...

Re: Suggestions for recruiters

I'd say that there is a role for the designer and/or producer, maybe, but only if people actually realise what that entails. Designer is not a full-time role any more. A few of the larger studios might have a small team of designers with loads of other developers, but the newer agile studios just ca...

Re: Game creators age

I wrote my first 'game' for the BBC B Micro when I was about 7 or 8 in the late 80s. It was nothing special, but it spawned an enemy at the top of the screen, then you moved (at the bottom of the screen) left or right to line up and shoot it. I think the enemy might have even been able to move and s...

Hello, I'm Anthony. I have a studio called Freya's Aett, but it's more a name to use when working on games than a serious studio. I'm... Well, I used to write professionally for games and now I write professionally about games; I teach games design and narrative where I can, rather than journalism, ...

Re: Tips on writing a branching plot?

In terms of software, I started out in the days of text-files and spreadsheets, but there's actually some useful software out there these days. Chat Mapper ( http://www.chat-mapper.com/ ) is cheap (free for hobbyists, $20 for small studios) and easy to use when getting your head straight. (it also p...

Well, if you'll excuse the self promotion... I was designer and lead-writer on a western dating sim called High School Dreams on PC, which sells for about £4 (roughly $6 USD) these days. It's cringe-worthy and saccharine enough to be a danger to diabetics, but it seems to be quite popular among a ce...
