I'd say the games I've been playing that fit that description are Guilty Gear XX #Reload, and Touhou: Imperishable Night.

Guilty Gear especially. Just when I think I'm getting good, the enemy kill me in a single combo I can't seem to escape out of.

My first VN was Katawa Shoujo, which a lot of our online community played.
I then gave Kanon a try, which cemented my love of the medium.

My own body is currently the thing irritating me.

Why did I think it was a good idea to be allergic to air for 1/4 of the year?
