Re: WebStory Engine - A Visual Novel Engine for the Web
Hi 2_an, thanks for the suggestions, most of which are very valid points. I‘m afraid they come too late though. As stated on both the website and the GitHub readme, I abandoned the WebStory Engine project some time ago, so it will not get any updates unless someone decides to take over and continue ...

Re: Hosting via vnovel.com?
Hi Untramen, I know that at least one guy has put WebStory Engine games on itch.io, so that should definitely be possible. For example: https://nocneopowiesci.itch.io/brama-umyslu An alternative might be to inline your XML into the index.html file. I don't know which version of the engine you are us...

Re: Anyone with experience with javascript engines
Hi mimiruns, I'm the creator of WebStory Engine. The guide you're using is outdated as the disclaimer says. Sorry about that. The old website for the engine crashed just when I released the new syntax and I couldn't get it to work so I now have to transfer all the old contents to the new website. :c...

Re: WebStory Engine - A Visual Novel Engine for the Web
New version 2016.7 with some exciting new features is here! It's been over half a year since the last release, but it's finally here and includes some new features which hopefully make the engine much more pleasant to use: A new syntax for writing stories! It's arguably much more readable than XML ...

Re: WebStory Engine - A Visual Novel Engine for the Web
New version 2015.11 released! You can now test your VNs locally without a server (if you embed the XML in the HTML file) and it's now possible to define a custom loading screen in the XML. Official release thread here: https://iiyo.org/thread-426.html Grab your copy here: https://github.com/iiyo/We...

Re: WebStory Engine - A Visual Novel Engine for the Web
Hey guys, just a quick heads-up: It's been a while but there's now been a new release for WebStory Engine: Version 2015.10. Yep, versioning scheme has changed as well. New stuff: - A "while" command for looping a series of commands - A "with" command (similar to "switch"...

Re: WebStory Engine - A Visual Novel Engine for the Web
Hi Mukudori! Sorry, I didn't look at the applications in the forums for some days. Memberships need to be approved because of all the spam bots. You should now be able to write in the forums. Regarding your question: I'm not sure if I have seen this problem before. I know that since recent versions ...

Re: Ren'Py games on websites or even as a Facebook App?
_lb_ currently works on a Ren'Py to WebStory Engine converter. Not sure where to get the latest version, but you can read more about it here (and maybe ask where to get it): https://iiyo.org/f/discussion/52/renpy- ... -converter

Re: WebStory Engine - A Visual Novel Engine for the Web
@kuri_chii: Glad you like it! @aister: I don't know if I understand you correctly. There already is a savegame system. It currently stores savegames in the localStorage of the browser, so refreshing or reloading the page shouldn't be any problem. Storing it somewhere else is a little difficult at th...

Re: WebStory Engine - A Visual Novel Engine for the Web
I released version 0.3.1 today, which is a maintenance release. It fixes a bug in the savegame system:
Savegames made with 0.3.0 should still work with 0.3.1 so updating should be hassle-free for your users.

Re: WebStory Engine - A Visual Novel Engine for the Web
@netravelr: There's no if statement. There's only a condition you can set on commands directly: <break ifvar="should_it_break" ifvalue="true" /> or <break ifvar="user_name" ifnot="C7N" /> I thought about introducing a "real" if using JavaScript code ...

Re: More than Forever: A Tragic Love Story [KN]
I think the WebStory developer told me I left out a couple of files that would make Linux computers unable to play the Web version [...] No, not really. I guess what you mean is that when using fonts typically not installed on linux computers (e.g. Comic Sans MS), you need to supply them along with...

Re: WebStory Engine - A Visual Novel Engine for the Web
Hi Sabotage! Did you use this link to download? http://webstoryengine.org/_media/webstory-engine-0.3.zip Works for me... No, no one is required to download anything on their own to play the games. What the users meant was that data is still being transfered to your computer, but it happens automatic...

@Serenity Frost:
Do you know about http://vnovel.com/ yet? They host visual novels for free.
For example, More Than Forever is hosted there, too: http://untramen.vnovel.com/more_than_forever/
