Well from what I can understand you intend for your game to just be a VN, since you said it's not an rpg/sim etc. I think the basic factors you need to know are: 1) How long do you intend this game to be? If the game is meant to be long then it makes it easier to adjust and fix your plot accordingly...

I love your style, and I think it's absolutely great and that you should only grow upon it. I think it's mostly a matter of coloring and lines. Line variation helps in defining features, as do using the proper colors to accentuate lights and shadows and give a little more liveliness to a character. ...
