Re: Newbie problem

I think the first two lines of text (after the d, and around the italics tags) should be enclosed in double quotes—does that help?

Re: guide to making trailers/OPs?

i just want to ask what do you guys think is the best or at least most commonly used software for making trailers/OP's ?? just asking I don't know much about industry standards, but I'd say it would be pretty easy to make a trailer or OP in Flash, since it makes it really easy to animate things and...

Re: Devil Gene R

The character designs on the website look really great, and the story sounds interesting. I'll be looking forward to this one for sure—it sounds like it'll be a cool game.

Re: Are there any suggested fonts?

I like Optima or Petita, myself, particularly because they're easy to read and nice-looking.

Re: Im confused - what should I use?

It tends to come down to personal preference, but the nice thing about Ren'py is that it has a framework already in place specifically for building visual novel-style projects, whereas if you were to do it in Flash, you'd have to build from the ground up. Of course, that way you'd have finer control...

Verity's Art

I suppose I might as well make a thread for my drawings—hi! Comments and critiques are very welcome. First up—quick sketchy character design for one of the games I'm working on... her name is Julia Howard, and she's a friendly girl who goes to the school the player transfers to at the beginning of t...

Re: Photo Distorting?

If you look under the filters menu in GIMP, there's a lot of different effects you can apply to photographs to get the sort of look you're talking about. Filters > Blur > Selective Gaussian Blur will get you something that looks like the second image, there, and for something like the third image I'...

Re: Survey on Preferences for Interaction

I think I tend to like games with frequent decision-making the most. I like it when I get the opportunity to make choices that influence the storyline in small ways—I mean, I don't like it when one choice is the difference between a good end or a bad end, but more like where your interaction with th...

Re: Character sprite size?

Well, it sort of depends on your window size, which you can set in options.rpy. If you're using 800x600, for example, you'd probably want the heights for the sprites to be around 600px, with some variation to account for different character heights. Basically, the final image pixel size just needs t...

Re: BG

Most of the time I find a bunch of images that have elements I want to incorporate into the background, shoop them together, and then paint over them in Photoshop, just like I would with, say, acrylics. If you're looking for a method that's simpler, using Blur > Smart Blur (Radius 3, Threshold 25, Q...

Using DSE events without the day planner?

All right, so I'm messing around a bit with a DSE-based game idea, and there are a handful of things that I'd like to do but don't know how to, because my python-fu is still kind of weak. Basically, I'm looking to not use the day planner at all, or at least not visibly, and present the user with the...

Re: Splitting plotline into chapters - anyone know how to do it?

I want to add an epilogue which is only unlocked when the player have played each segment of the chapter, including the bad ending. How can I do a variable like this, please? I think what you'd want to do there is set a variable for the end of each of them, and then... okay, something kinda like th...
