Re: That Cheap and Sacred Thing - Drama/Sci-fi

I'm so glad everyone enjoyed the game! :D I'm really proud to have worked on it; it came out great. I have to say, even knowing what the CGs would look like, the moments they were used I found to still be really powerful. The ending ;_;

Haha, yeah, VN. There's not really much romance, unless you turn your head sideways and squint. I'm glad it sounds interesting to you :3

Wanderer

Figured it was about time I posted a topic for this. http://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/download/file.php?id=7900&mode=view A girl wakes up on the side of a river, remembering nothing of who she is or where she's been. Her only clue to her previous existence is a note: "Your name is Bethany G...

...I pretty much work exclusively on non-renai VNs, so yeah >_> I like writing friendship-centric stories, actually.

Re: How DEEP do you research for your VN's?

I do a lot of research—mainly because my works tend to have elements that require it. Thankfully, I have the internet, a university library, and a lot of friends with specialized areas of knowledge.

Re: What I did Last Week #2 (week ending 1/23/2011)

Got my VN idea approved for my research project in AI and gaming (woot woot); started talking to the people in psych department about methods of modeling relationships, trust and affiliation. Also started revising a bit of script that I started writing earlier and did a bit of character redesigning.

Re: Main Menu Background

Is the first block of code you posted in your last post indented the way it is there? If so, you might have to drop the first line back four spaces for it to work properly. Python (and by extension Renpy) is very dependent on whitespace use, so that can muck things up if you're not careful.

Re: Improving Photo-Manipulated Backgrounds for VNs

Hm, I think I found some interesting effects you guys might find handy: photomanip-test.png I used surface blur at first, and then duplicated the layer and used Stylize > Find Edges. Then I set the second layer to multiply and toned the opacity down, so it looks like there's a little bit of linework...

Re: Help with hovering on imagemaps

Well, what you can do is have an image that shows the "off" states of all the buttons, and an image that shows the "on" states of all the buttons. The imagemap should only show the part of the "on" image that's specified in the coords given by the hotspot, so it won't t...

Re: My drawing and coloring, Crtic please!

I think it might help if you slope the shoulders a little bit—generally they're not so much straight across, I think, and that'd make the poses look more natural. You could also move the eyes a little closer together—I think the rule of thumb might be one eye-width between them. That and I think gen...

Re: Improving Photo-Manipulated Backgrounds for VNs

^ What Auro-Cyanide said; also, I find either surface blur or smart blur helps to even out surfaces and make it look more like an illustration and less like a photograph.

Re: Dream of Stars :: Sci-fi, Romance, Drama, BxG :: Commerc

Oh, wow, this looks ridiculously cute, art-wise, and I am a sucker for the cute—but I'm also really interested in the story, in that all the characters seem nicely multifaceted. Also, sci-fi! :D The music also sounds like it's going to be really nice, too. I'll be interested to see where this goes.

Re: Art Dumpage! Show your art ^^

This past week I got my visual novel project idea approved for a course project (woot woot) so I've been working on solidifying some of the character designs and ended up doing a sketch of the main character that I ended up being rather pleased with, if only because I finally felt like I got her hai...

Re: Critique my writing, please.

I think you could work on trying to show things about characters through dialogue and their actions, you know? Like, in the second section, you tell us that the desert prowlers are lustful and greedy; rather than tell us that, show us what they're doing that makes the viewpoint character read them t...
