Re: The Spirit Of Disaster (Competition 2012)

Oh good, I'm glad Living for Disaster got a bit of love. That would definitely have been my fourth pick, I thought it was one of the strongest entries that did a pretty standard take on the prompt. I also wished there was more support for Dhumaketu, if I was forced to pick a favorite (and I kinda w...

Re: The Spirit Of Disaster (Competition 2012)

4 dimensional okay, so in this story, the spirit of disaster is an interface used in an experiment. The experiment seems to test about apocalypse and what people's perceptions of it, like what would you do about it, knowing that it will come? you can either do nothing and the end will comes, or you...

Re: The Spirit Of Disaster (Competition 2012)

Sepia This game has some major technical flaws. The biggest one is that it overrides the user-set text speed, and sets it to something far too slow for me. So that makes it hard to read. It also has a character that speaks in black text with a black drop-shadow - again, hard to read. After about 10...

Re: The Spirit Of Disaster (Competition 2012)

Oh, wow. I'd gotten so busy in RL, I'd almost completely forgotten about this! Anyway.... impressions! Anniversaries, Adversity, and Pepper First Impression: The introduction is a bit infodumpy for my tastes, but the writing is crisp, clean, and easily understandable. The image of blood on the stone...

Re: What makes people care about a protagonist?

I think that a good protagonist must have weaknesses, but also strengths. That's an important point. I'm not a big fan of a protagonist who's just a complete schlub, always awkward, always venial or cowardly, always tripping over themselves, etc. There needs to be a reason why THIS is the main char...

Re: Teacher Student relationships

One of my favorite 'fantasy' relationships is romance between teacher and student, so obviously I think it should be included. However, there are valid concerns to be raised, and in a modern/otherwise realistic setting, I'm usually disappointed if the problematic elements of such a relationship AREN...

Re: How To Write Totally Awesome Characters and Examples of

I really liked Pyrephox's guide to interesting characters. And like Ookami, I believe that the story should be an author's main concern, and the characters should serve to the story rather than as separate elements. I'm glad you liked it! I also liked Ookami's post, although I tend to think that th...

Re: Guestbook

Hello! I'm Pyrephox. I've been a fan of VNs and similar games for years, probably starting with a copy of PM2 in English, and True Love 95. But I haven't really created any of my own. But now I'm making moves in that direction, because it's good stress relief and a lot of fun. The discussions here a...

Re: How To Write Totally Awesome Characters and Examples of

I have to disagree with quite a lot of what you've suggested, here. Some of that is just different styles and preferences, of course; I'm pretty jaded these days with the berserker, crazy anti-hero type. A casualty of being a comic fan in the 90s. While you're right about it being common , it ...
