Severe image cache/memory problems

I need to know how Ren'Py's image cache works/doesn't work. I've been tweaking everything I know how to tweak and my game is still unplayable. ;__; My game is very graphics-heavy. It has a LOT of characters (25+) with many different expressions, all run off LiveComposites and ConditionSwitches. Many...

Re: Numerous errors with Renpy 6.15.2 and earlier versions o

Oooookay. Weirder problem now. Ren'Py v6.15.2 is perma-broke for me. I've deleted it and reinstalled it twice, including a system restart. But I can't tell it to edit a script, or change the editor, without getting the error message I posted above. What data does Ren'Py store outside of its own dire...

Re: Numerous errors with Renpy 6.15.2 and earlier versions o

Ah, but that's the thing - there isn't even a Puppy Love.rpy, like I said above. It's just the title of the game - I never named any of my files that. Also, my filenames already use underlines instead of spaces; I do that as a matter of habit anyway. My files are: options.rpy, screens.rpy, script.rp...

Numerous errors with Renpy 6.15.2 and earlier versions on XP

Hi, I'm trying to run Renpy 6.15.2 (and earlier, 6.13.12) on a Windows XP SP3 machine. I'm getting some very weird errors, and I can't find any mention of them elsewhere on the boards. I'm starting to get a bit panicky; I don't know why I'm the only one getting this stuff. All the errors seem to bas...

Re: Changing background of "say" window independent of chara

Ah, sorry, was busy over weekend and forgot to mark this "solved". Thanks heaps. I finally got the distinction between the options file and the screens file, in terms of one being called at startup and the other updating constantly. The example code you gave works perfectly. :)

Re: Changing background of "say" window independent of chara

That's what I hoped, although I'm trying to do that now and can't figure out how to phrase it. In my Options.rpy, in the section for the say screen, I've got this: saywhat = "PL2HUD.png" style.window.background = saywhat Then in the body of the game script, when I want a change, I've got: global say...

Changing background of "say" window independent of c[SOLVED]

Hi all, me again. ^^; I've been messing around with "style.window.background = ", and I wondered: Is there a way to change the background of the dialogue window, besides binding it into character properties? Practical application: In my game, I wanted my dialogue window to change into a PDA-screen k...

Re: Make a scene-jump happen from within a Python block?

Heh, thanks - I figured it out just as you posted, by dumb luck. :D But thank you very much again for suggesting the 'endgame' condition, I never realized it was looping over and over until you said.

I'll mark the thread solved.

Re: Make a scene-jump happen from within a Python block?

Ah, that makes sense; that's quite likely what's happening. Unfortunately, when I use the code you gave, it throws me an error I've been seeing a lot today: "UnboundLocalError: local variable 'endgame' referenced before assignment". I've been getting this error with virtually everything I've tried t...

Re: Adding a bar (or similar dynamic element) to text window

Sorry for late reply - It worked, thanks. :D I had awful trouble getting it to work because I didn't understand the differences between how you declare/use variables in the main script vs. how you do it in Python blocks, but now it's working and it looks great. Actually, could you tell me - how do l...

Make a scene-jump happen from within a Python block?[SOLVED]

The game I'm building has a digital clock that ticks down gradually (not in realtime; I just manually decrement the variable it runs off, every few lines of dialogue.) If the timer reaches 00:00, the player will be taken to a Game Over scene of an exploding spaceship. I've got the code working, exce...

Adding a bar (or similar dynamic element) to text wi[SOLVED]

(Hi again, Ren'Py-noob here - just switched to Ren'Py from Novelty but have ongoing projects still - so I'm desperately trying to learn how to do half the things Novelty does, but in Ren'Py.) For the game I'm currently making, I've added a couple of HUD-like elements to the text window, as you'll se...

Re: Controlling speed of moveinleft, moveinright et al.

Thanks very much, it works like a charm. I've now got a complete Novelty-style enter-character statement that sets character, move speed, target position, origin position (usually offscreen), and whether or not to mirror the image. I'll post my code in case any other noobs who come after me might fi...

Re: Controlling speed of moveinleft, moveinright et al.

Ah, yes, thanks, that's the one. I'll do that. :)

Oh, it just occurred to me - the move statement with parameters, is there a way to flip images horizontally that I could build into it? For having characters enter from the other side of the screen, etc.?
