Writer/Editor Looking to Collaborate

Cheers! I'm a short story/novella writer who'd like to break into the visual novel circuit. As a prelude to working on my own visual novel, I'd like to join a team to get a first-hand look at the creative process -- and assist in the realization of a full project. My preference is to join a writing ...

Re: Dialogues in VN

I'm really tempted to dismiss the OP this as some sort of clever concern-trolling. It's nailing all the bingo-boxes. The dismissive arrogance, the very thought that someone has any real mastery over dialogue by simple virtue of being an educator -- it's almost too flawless of a ruse. Well done.

Re: What are you listening to while you write?

No Idols, Domo Genesis. It's definitely odd listening to the stoner-rap member of the Odd Future collective while I'm writing a VN that takes place in 15th century Italy, but The Alchemist's production on the whole album is just out of the world and incredibly ethereal. It's surprisingly good for pr...

Re: How to deal with the Media - Do's and Don'ts

I vastly prefer the Marshawn Lynch approach: be as hostile to any and all publicity as frequently as possible. There are too many people on their grind in games journalism for the nice-guy approach. I say this because I used to work as a camera operator/videographer at some trade shows in New York, ...

Re: I write... Literary Fiction?

"Literary fiction" A.K.A.: "Arbitrary Distinction" using snappy buzzwords like "Character-Driven" and "Exploration of Themes" which is what the vast majority of fiction -- genre, experimental or otherwise, achieves without special attention drawn to those part...

Re: What was your first story?

I wrote in either my last year of middle school or freshman year of high-school -- the memory's faded a bit now. It was about a teenager's obsession the sound of Polka music coming from an apartment across an alleyway in New York City's big Polish neighborhood, Greenpoint, where I grew up. Semi-auto...

Great project you've got going here. I sent over a brief sample. As I mentioned in the email, I can write one from other narrative perspectives as well.

Re: Which country do you prefer otome games to take place in

Yeah, teen sex is pretty mainstreamed here, especially in the cities. When I moved to New York City, I was considered a late bloomer because I was just getting involved in the usual teen party racket of booze-and-MDMA-fueled-sex-romps at the ripe old age of seventeen. And I know it's not exactly Den...

Re: How can I stop making sexist games?

You are a creator. You have agency in making works that you want to make. The mail you received was only the latest in a wave of attempts by third-wave Social Justice warriors attempting to shame creators who don't fit their worldview. Don't succumb to their schoolyard type of peer-pressure. Tellin...

I'd nominate Ecclesiastes if you're going biblical. Maybe set it in a Japanese high-school, too.

Re: How can I stop making sexist games?

I've tried to stay neutral in this conversation at the risk of adding more kerosene to the gender-war fire, but it's reached a point where it's best now to drop my two cents in, writer to writer. Art does not, and should not, always have to be a continual "safe space" for women, men, trans...

Re: What qualifies a person to voice act?

Uta Hagen's "Respect for Acting" is a pretty good text if you want an introduction to using one's voice as a main tool for performance, in spite of it not being a book written for voice actors per se. Most of my acting student colleagues had it as a required text in their conservatory trai...
