Re: How to avoid cliché in a Japanese high school setting?
The worst case scenario is that the VN will be ignored, which is not likely to happen here, unless the art is really horrible (or outside the norm) and the promotional write-up is boring. It really comes down to why you are making the game in the first place. If it is just for yourself, then yes, m...

I second this. I would be far more interested in learning about the Asian experience in the US.You mentioned that your family is Japanese/Korean, and that your were born in the USA and grew up in a primarily Asian area.
Using that as part of your setting would make your VN stand out.

Re: The GUI thread!
@lumen - I liked your first one the best - minus the readability. The latest one suffers from too many font styles and sizes, making it look amateurish. The first was more polished. If you can find a font that has the same overall feel but is easier to read, you'd be in good shape.

Re: The Edge of Magic (Modern fantasy)
Here's a clip from the start of the game. Completely different genre, but it's food for thought.I've never played Bastion. What's it about?

Re: The Edge of Magic (Modern fantasy)
I'm 100% for a voiced narrator. I think the idea, if done well, can really transform a game for the better. (Bastion anyone? )

Re: I want to improve
Hi desu_cake! I'm sure many other extremely talented artists are going to help you out, but I'll throw in a few thoughts. The design is great - you didn't need to tell me she's a stick in the mud, as I can already tell. The sour expression, stiff arms, and curled fists work in your favor. The costum...

Re: Amorphous tries to art: Requesting critiques on first sp
I like the third the best overall, though I like the detail work from the second, such as the facial scruff and the rectangles inside the across-the-chest-belt-thing. Using thinner lines for details really would help make them pop.

Re: Amorphous tries to art: Requesting critiques on first sp
There's a lot to like about your sprite. The proportions are cartoonish but work, the pose has life, and the expression is interesting and suits the character. I don't mind thick lines or comic book looks, as long as they are done well. My only criticism for now is that it lacks polish. The lines ar...

Re: How to Deal with Rapists in a Game
Should I make the rapist obviously evil lest people think that I condone rape? You should make the story that you want to tell, regardless of what people you will never meet or talk to might think about you. That being said, rape is evil, so even if your character volunteers at a homeless shelter a...

Re: The GUI thread!
@Kingv That's really pretty! I love it. My only critique is that the title's colors are too close to the background colors, so it gets lost. Other than that, nice!

Re: Where are the BxGs?
I saw an idea being tossed around about getting rid of some sections that pertain to basic art and writing skills, but having just gotten here, I'd be sad to see them go. The reason I joined this forum was because it's a one stop shop for VN creation, from the basics to more advanced topics. Everyon...

Re: Pitching Your Visual Novel - What's Your Premise?
Ok, here goes my premise! Crushing Skies, A Visual Novel Crippled from disease and confined to a wheelchair, Amara yearns to be more than the object of everyone's sympathy. Yet the chance to shine during a summer internship at Archi Tech Research turns tragic with the sudden death of her older siste...

Re: Trying to draw anime style, critiques please
The softer line art and colored shading really helped the girl, but there's still more tweaks to be done! - The watch should be facing the same direction as the back of the left hand, and the wrist should be wider. - The blouse looks REALLY loose around the left shoulder - what's keeping it from jus...

@Obscura Thanks so much! I was thinking Daria too (la la laaa la la laa laaaaa), though I hope it's not too cartoony since my project is on the serious side. @Ayutac I used Illustrator for the linework and Photoshop for everything else (sketching and painting). Though I used the elements version, be...
