Re: Games with mixed art

There is actually a different way to go about this. If you're trying to have several artists work together to increase volume, then instead of having each artist draw a complete sprite sometimes what they'll do in industry is to have an artist responsible for a particular aspect of the art instead. ...

Re: Games with mixed art

Previous posters have touched on this, but essentially if the styles are too different it will cause a break in immersion. Rather than continuing the experience, the viewer instead becomes fixated on how and why art for one character or object looks so different from another, as if they don't even b...

Re: Sprites with different poses as well as expressions?

I definitely prefer a wider variety of poses versus a single pose with multiple facial expressions. The main reason is, the latter approach looks "cheap". A single pose with multiple expressions on average takes less time to create than multiple poses so it makes me, the viewer, think that...

Re: About CG art

I am one of those people who feel 3DCG in a VN is detrimental. It is not based in logic, it is just how I feel. For instance, I will absolutely not mind if the backgrounds are done in 3D, but if any of the foreground characters are 3D it instantly feels bad. The best use of 3D hides the fact that it...

Re: Coding on the cloud

I'm more impressed that you can tolerate coding on a cellphone.

I'm the type of coder that has to test every 3rd line I write, so this wouldn't work for me personally. Google doesn't doesn't have a way for you to build and test.

neat. bookmarked.

I do wonder if their business model generates any significant revenues though.

Re: Game Developer's Conference - San Francisco, March 2016

Wasn't able to stay for long, but I took a quick run around the expo area. Couldn't find Hanako Games' booth, but I did find what looked like an otome game being developed by Longstory in the indie game area.

I will most likely be in attendance if work schedules coincide. Won't need a ticket, just +1ing to see who else is going.

Re: Is music important in a game?

I can't say I've ever played a VN without music. I am conditioned by precedent to prefer music over the silence. I also do not listen to my own music when playing games so that is probably a big factor. To me, it really would be silence I'd have to deal with.

Re: Route Endings?

[1] and [2] are generally done for simplicity reasons. Complex relationship webs rapidly become intractable to human writers. Of course [3] is the most interesting but isn't easy to do at all. The most interesting setups are where you can get the characters to mess with each other or interact in som...

Re: Drawing Sprites by Hand?

You could use a photocopier and a light table. Tracing to reproduce previous layers isn't great, but given your restrictions it seems like the best way and it most closely resembles what animators use to do. The real solution is just to get use to using tablets. I personally have lost the ability to...

Re: How Can I Get A Computer For My Games?

Have you heard of the Intel NUC? Its on sale on Best Buy right now for $160 and it is pretty much a full computer, although a weak one. In terms of processing power it still blows tablets out of the water though. The advantage is its small and you easily moved, meaning you can literally unplug it an...
