Re: O..MY..GOD...toomanyassets!

I can definitely agree with the sentiment that you don't wanna put all your eggs in one basket until you've got the style down for the project as a whole. I can understand having a larger then normal amount, especially if a character is super expressive, but at some point you do have to ask yourself...

Re: Guestbook

I've had this account for a few years, but I basically ended up taking a several-year sabbatical both in terms of art and writing and I'm only just now starting to dip my toe back into things! Hello, I'm Mix (obviously) and I like to pretend I'm a coyote on the internet. (It's a living.) I currently...

Re: Randomized sprite coding?

Alright, this is sort of starting to make sense. Like I said I'm still a true beginner haha, so I'm basically going off the tutorial and a few things I've read on here. Basically, what I had in mind was at points during the game the main character would show up as normal on one side but on the other...

Re: Randomized sprite coding?

You mean like: renpy.random.choice(["sprite1.png", "sprite2.png"]) and so on? I guess, but... A) Where/how would I put that bit of coding? I'm still pretty new to coding and only know the basics right now //lame haha umu B) A shortcut/defined object...would that be possible? It'...

Randomized sprite coding?

Alright, this is going to sound like a bizarre request/function, but I swear it'll make sense in context eventually... Would it be possible to write a code/shortcut/whatever to have a character sprite be selected at random (randomly generated, if you will) from a 'pool' of sprites? Like say you have...

Re: Lost But Not All Gone [Post-Apoc][Fantasy][Dark][NaNo'13

This game has officially been put on hold. It turned out that I bit off more than I can chew in terms of programming and I ended up giving up for the time being as a result. It WILL come out at some point, I definitely can assure that, I just plan to make an easier game or two first to get some expe...

Re: Lost But Not All Gone [Post-Apoc][Fantasy][Dark][NaNo'13

Statistics: The game contains 286 dialogue blocks, containing 3,070 words and 16,392 characters, for an average of 10.7 words and 57 characters per block. The game contains 4 menus, 21 images, and 12 screens. I haven't had much time to do things, and my inexperience is proving to be my undoing so f...

Re: Lost But Not All Gone [Post-Apoc][Fantasy][Dark][NaNo'13

Characters added, percentages updated. Planning to grab music today, as well. Still not sure whether to draw backgrounds or use CC photos yet. wow this sounds really interesting. I wonder if there will be multiple endings or a kinetic novel? The plot seems quite straight-forward, but still there can...

screams to self quietly I told myself at first that I would resist the temptation to go for this considering I have never tried or used Ren'py at all (For my large, probably-going-to-take-months-to-get-it-ready project, I planned to learn once I had a lot more stuff taken care of- and since I'm plan...

Re: Discussion: Protagonists and showing them?

Based on my own ponderings over the past day or two, combined with what people have said, I'm leaning towards doing full sprites for the protagonist- if anything, to be able to show his emotions but keeping a bit of control over WHEN he shows up. (So, say, when he's the only one around in a scene, t...

Re: Discussion: Protagonists and showing them?

As an added comment, for the project I'm working on (which I'm somewhat keeping under wraps until I have more to show for myself than a gigantic web of files in Scrivener and a handful of concept references) I'm taking inspiration from how Persona 3/4 (and other SMT games like Devil Survivor 1 (have...

Discussion: Protagonists and showing them?

All right, I have another topic (since the last, smaller one I made a couple months ago) I'd like to broach and get people's opinions, stances, and feedback on. How much do you, personally, think the protagonist of a VN be shown? By this, I mean more than just illustrations- do you think the protago...

Re: Dialogue Choices/Branching

Hoo boy okay this might be a big response so LETS GET IT GOING For starters, one hundred percent agree on the redundancy thing. What I'd end up doing, most likely, is have the character the protagonist is talking to/answering react/respond in turn, as if you selecting the choice equals the protagoni...
