Re: Religion... Yay or nay?

You know, I was scratching my head for a while asking myself, "Huh? These posts don't quite make sense." Then it hit me.... Rhetoric can be taken two ways: technical and social meaning. I switched from religion in one post to linguistics in the next. Not everyone would have picked up on th...

Re: Religion... Yay or nay?

Ah, Epicurus: Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God? Firstly, let me point out that this has tell-tale s...

Re: Religion... Yay or nay?

See, I knew that, but it is one of the main things that bothers me in the Catholic belief system. I find it ridiculous that an all-powerful being would be compelled to answer or act every time he/she/it's name was invoked. It is too human-centric a view of things in my book. It makes God orbit Man,...

Re: Religion... Yay or nay?

And finally to tie things up from my side the OP and anyone else: Should you put religion in - no reason not to. Ask yourself what you want to achieve with it's inclusion. Should you use existing religion? Depends. First think about whether you actually do understand it, or just think you do, and wh...

Re: Religion... Yay or nay?

And the second post: Also, on another concept mentioned in here, people seem to get really touchy when they believe their beliefs are being or going to be treated frivolously, especially arguing against considering stories i.e. from the Bible as myths. I can actually say categorically I get as touch...

Re: Religion... Yay or nay?

There are two posts that I believe deal directly with statements that I made. To be fair to all, I'll reply to both here in the forum. First up: LateWhiteRabbit When the choice is humanity having either an "abusive parent" or an "absentee parent", I pick the latter one The way yo...

Re: Religion... Yay or nay?

Alright - This is my last one: Those interpretations really don't make God or Elisha look less nuts for unleashing bears on people. It still basically boils down to - "if you are one of God's chosen, He's total cool with you murdering the crap out of people, because He's strict about His laws b...

Re: Religion... Yay or nay?

Taleweaver Interesting - just comparing your comments with the quotes post "You can't be a Christian, unless you believe in Christ." vs "I can say I am a Christian but if I don't believe in Christ, does that mean it's true?" "Religion" vs "Theology" - I'd jus...

Re: Religion... Yay or nay?

Religion and theism are different things, one can have a theistic worldview while still being areligious. To distinguish between the neutral position of absense of belief in any gods and the active disbelief of their existence, the terms weak atheism and strong atheism are sometimes used. Good to k...

Re: Help: UUID in Ren'Py/Python? [SOLVED]

Thanks! I couldn't find the uuid file in my ren'py folder (6.14). A search brought up the compiled one in RAPT but that didn't work, so I sourced it: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1213328/how-can-i-get-the-uuid-module-for-python-2-4-3 It worked like a dream. Apologies for posting in the wrong f...

Re: Religion... Yay or nay?

atheism: the belief that there is no God. A common, but incorrect, definition. Atheism is merely the absence of belief, not necessarily active disbelief. Actually, in the absence of the i-equivalent in the (moral, amoral, immoral) set, atheism does double duty. theistic, atheistic - there's no i-th...

Re: Religion... Yay or nay?

The problem with agnosticism is the strictness most agnostics bring to the table when dealing with the "one cannot know" thing. Agnostics generally rule out the possibility that a god could reveal him/herself to the world one day; they refuse the thought that there would be a scientific w...

Re: Religion... Yay or nay?

I believe in God, but I don't think that atheists have an illogical belief. If anything, the belief is more logical because it's based on the lack of scientific evidence of God's existence. Of course, there are other logical arguments that God exists, but ultimately it's never going to be provable ...

Help: UUID in Ren'Py/Python?

Hi, Has anyone generated a universal unique id (UUID) in Ren'Py? The module is supposed to ship with the standard python files, but when I tried the import uuid statement, I get the following error: ImportError: No Module named uuid I do have a workaround I'm using (player name + datetime) but this ...

Re: Religion... Yay or nay?

edit, sorry I was going to let it go but this -> "Atheists believe neither God nor gods exist. Religious people do. Although opposite, they are equally beliefs." is faulty logic. Logic is of some little importance to Atheists. Um, elaborate please? I wrote equally beliefs i.e. both...
