I'd say just a little thing, but you could also make use of saves to keep track of previous choices. Some tend to forget this little thing.

Plus i'm okay with the fact that episodic are short. I myself intend to make each of my episods betwenn 10min and 30 minute.

It can run well if each place has some activity (talking, puzzle, etc...) and that you don't have access to everywhere right from the start.

It is in its own way. If it works with the idea of different paths/ending(s) so you can say it is. The big difference would be that it's in 3d with "original" gameplay and mechanic.

If you speak about making a commercial-use VN, episodic isn't the best issue. Because looking at it the gamer's view, you pay alot (on long time) for what would cost way less for the same amount, but without the promise of seeing it through.
