Re: Music Critiques?
Composition is strong.
Drums/percussion is still your weak point. Need to treat it as equally expressive as any of the other instruments. Less of the same loop, more dynamics.

Re: Music feedback
I feel like it has a lot of potential to be an amazing song, but it lacks some execution. 1. The intro drums, the metal toms I believe you have, is very anticlimatic and does not match with the tension of the piano. Consider using cymbal swells, or using *sparkled* cymbals (cymbals with ball chains)...

Re: Orchestral piece, please point out funky spots?
It sounds funny because it has no structure to it. It sounds a garble of random notes. If you're new to it, you should be start with a chord progression, then build off a melody from it, with a rhythm section to add color. Follow a simple structure of intro, Verse, Chorus, Verse, Chorus, Bridge, Cho...

Re: What dB should I normalize music to?
Different kinds of music are mastered at different amounts of loudness and dynamic. For example pop / rock music is usually mastered louder and with more dynamic range than classical music. More compression, etc. If that helps. You have it backwards. Rock/pop is mastered with less dynamic range tha...

Re: What dB should I normalize music to?
You need to get the average dB level, and just pick a number to normalize all track to. http://ugocapeto.blogspot.com/2011/07/how-to-get-average-audio-level-in.html The issue is that compression varies, and normalize means you just look at the peak values, but it's the average perceived loudness tha...

Re: Could I get some song input/critiques?
Strong compositions all around. However, the percussive department can use some love. 1. You should be automating the drums more. If the piano is velocity controlled, that means the drums should get the same amount of love. 2. Consider using fills, and mix up the beat. Use crashes, and hihat sizzle ...

Re: Kirroha's Hopefully Less Miserable Music Attempts Thread
It gives plenty of breathing room. The issue is that you're not using a direct arrangement. Just arrange exactly how you would play it live. I'm pretty sure for the most part, you play with a set tempo with few if any fermata (uncounted rests/sustains). Aside from that, you'll also have to arrange i...

Re: Kirroha's Hopefully Less Miserable Music Attempts Thread
I recommended FL studio from the other thread.
But I mean, right now your melodies are quite rushed with no breathing room. What I recommend is that you compose on the piano, and arrange on the computer.

Re: Kirroha's Hopefully Less Miserable Music Attempts Thread
Here's a tip: Imagine your melodies as someone speaking, with a story to tell. When people speak, they drag some words out, they pause, they breathe, they accent, they ask a question, they reply, they phrase, they yell, they speak softly. You seem to understand this naturally when you're playing you...

Re: Replacing the Midi Soundcard
You need to make music in a more flexible HOST. In order to get good sounds, you need quality PLUGINs. Finale Notepad is a host. It allows you to compose music via it's scoring sequencer. However, Finale notepad is not a very capable host of using different plugins (instruments). You need to get a H...

No problems. Hope you guys enjoyed them. They might be of use for someone. As someone who sometimes participates in game projects, I understand the need for good quality tracks without strings attached.

I like it. I love the honest piano songs. I'm a big fan of simple and honest songs.

Re: Music Dump: Piano loops and possibly other stuff
Okay, I'm a composer myself so excuse me if I start ranting on or anything, that said I aim to give as much constructive critique as I can. Let's get started. The songs all follow a nice minimalistic approach, which is something I do like, but it's also something that's hard to keep interesting ove...
