Re: How do you choose name for main character?

I just went with names i liked or ones i could potentially see my self naming my kids after. I wouldn't name my kid bill so why have a character named bill. Sometimes a name conjures up an established notion of what or who a character is. Bill sounds like a couple of things to me. He sounds like th...

Re: How do you plan out your stories?

Bullet points. Forever bullet points. I usually plan small (like you) very vague plot points. The thing is I never really adhere to them. Sometimes my initial idea for a character or plot point is upstaged by what I eventually end up writing. The initial planning is only so that I have some semblanc...

Re: Patience trying something 100% new... how do you get it?

In some cases this reaction can be helpful (for instance, specializing in one or two fields can be more fulfilling, ultimately, than living as a jack-of-all-trades) but at other times it can cause you to close yourself off to new and fun experiences. I'm not really sure how I handle this myself, ot...

Re: The Edutainment Discussion Thread

When learning a language, you should learn it the way native speakers do. I agree and disagree with this. Japanese is a lot like German and Spanish in that it has a "polite" way of speaking. I'm not at all fluent in Japanese, but from everything I've picked up, you speak to your parents, ...

Re: The Edutainment Discussion Thread

A different, digressional point of view: Learning a language from today's software is still tedious and boring. I've tried learning German using two programs: Rosetta Stone and Fluenz. Both of them are painfully repetitive. The fault in this though is how these programs tackle language learning. Ros...

Re: Are "Darker" Emotions Harder to Write

I spent most of my teen years writing "troubled" things, most of which have not (and should not) see the light of day[...] I can relate to this so hard. Anyway, different stuff works for different people but here's what I think: Even though I can't comment on the difficulty of writing abo...

Re: Intellectual property, characters, and the VN community

I'm on your side of the isle. I would never in a million years balk at someone doing fan-fiction based on my work. If anything, I'd encourage it. Although I think your partner is (for lack of a better word) crazy, I think you should have been clear about your goals from the get-go. It may seem like ...

Re: Is it legal to create VN backgrounds with online program

@Delta and Gear Ahh... both of you are right. And I only had to read the title to figure it out. :X Anyway, I suggest the OP use Blender then. It's 100% free and open source. Then BlendSwap has a few pre-made buildings or locations to use and render and use for games or animation and such. They're p...

Re: Inclusivity in games

I think it's about the target market. Some people loves self insert with faceless/mute protagonist, the other loves protagonist with original character and personality. You simply can't have both. If you choose protagonist with personality & character then that means you exclude the self insert...

@Delta m.m

I think the original question was about the legality of using reference images to create 3D models and not about individual software's Terms of Service agreements.

Re: Is it legal to create VN backgrounds with online program

Generally, you can create an artistic expression (painting, 3D render, vector image) from a copyrighted photograph or painting as long as the outcome is changed drastically enough that it's basically unrecognizable. If it sounds vague, it's because it purposely is. Consider the famous Barack Obama &...

Re: Inclusivity in games

I play games over on Choice of Games. Most of the main characters there are faceless, without any personality other than that which the player inserts themselves. [...] Done right it can be a powerful and interesting storytelling technique and I don't consider it cheap at all in that regards. Hmm.....

Re: Vector or Raster? What Art Program Do You Use?

I always hated Vector because I had to use a mouse. When I got a tablet, it wasn't any better. Then I discovered the magic and wonder of the pencil tool in illustrator. Lines come out so perfect and clean every single time. I don't even sketch anymore...there isn't even a need!

Re: Inclusivity in games

I don't technically want people to see themselves in characters as such, especially main characters. I don't do faceless since I think it's good for people to see other perspectives other than their own. But being able to see people like you is important in media, whether it's your gender, race, se...
