Re: Patching an Android app with .rpyc files?

Sounds about right. Thanks. My phone isn't rooted at the moment, but I may be getting a new one imminently, so I'll try it on the new one if and when that happens.

Patching an Android app with .rpyc files?

Hello, all! It's been a while... I've been overjoyed at the advent of Android Ren'Py games. I have more gaming time on my phone than on my desktop, and it's awesome to be able to get great VNs with all the Ren'Py features like rollback, unlimited save slots, and so on. There are some superb VNs out ...

Re: [SLOWDOWN] Please be careful who you give business to.

When I saw the first post in Topagae's thread, I thought that looked like a nifty setup, and was considering contacting him about entering a deal with one of my existing Ren'Py games. When I saw how Topagae reacted in the subsequent discussion, I very quickly reconsidered. Either one of (a) the tech...

Re: Otome-related survey

Otoko desukedo... 1a - I much prefer it if the character has her own personality. 2c or 2b - I feel strongly that a single playthrough to a good ending should be a complete story in itself. 3c or 3d - but don't mind much 4a 5b or 5e - I want to know that the author's thought things through, and be f...

Re: Elven Relations 2: Mermaid Liaisons

Hi all. I guess I owe you an update. Firstly, the baby's been born! Photos are here if anyone's interested. She's very cute :) Second: yeah, that means Mermaid Liaisons is on somewhat of a pause. It was actually on something of a pause for a couple of months before that: I think just solidly working...

Re: RenPSP

The one piece of advice I'd give is: plan how you're going to handle "load", "save", and rollback (or readback) forwards and backwards. If you don't get your data structures defined sensibly from as early as possible, you're in for a world of pain trying to handle loading, saving...

Re: Battle Engine

Wow. This is looking seriously awesome. I love the modularity and generality you've designed into this. I definitely agree the game designer might want to be able to specify whether an action can target only friendlies, only enemies, or any unit. Perhaps even a separate flag for itself, for some tre...

Re: Battle Engine?

I'd certainly be interested in the source code, because you've had rather more success with User-Defined Displayables than I have, and I'd like to look at how you did it. The system also has things in common with the combat system I was planning for Mermaid Liaisons, so I might be able to not just l...

Re: in need of answer! >_<

If it's an accidental kiss, then probably better when the characters' lips are touching. Be sure that you can see the look of surprise on their faces :) If it were a deliberate kiss, with a gradual buildup for several lines earlier, then you could argue the case either way round; I'd say it doesn't ...

Re: Side Image (and anomalous problem)

Ah, I suspect your text problem is caused because you don't have a full-screen image behind everything. That background image isn't big enough. Ren'Py needs a solid (non-transparent) pixel at every point on the screen. You have two options: 1) Edit all your background images such that they're sized ...

Re: Side Image (and anomalous problem)

What do you mean by assigning multiple side images?
You can use ShowingSwitch to make the side image for a character change based on what images are visible. That may be what you want.

Re: Errant Heart - Settling In

I know I already mentioned this, but please do not begin a sentence with ‘but’ or ‘and’. These are stylistic choices. Starting sentences with conjunctions is valid English, but has a more informal connotation (see 1 , 2 ). For something deliberately casual like a first-person narration, I think the...

Re: Huge cast, or broken-up sets?

I think it's better to spread them across several games. In anime, on the one hand you've got something like Code Geass which managed quite well with its LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters; on the other hand, Negima didn't seem to do such a good job (as far as I got with it before I gave up). In a game, I th...

Re: Your Stereotypes

Heh, I just saw a show last night which was the Gilbert & Sullivan show The Sorcerer (1870s), but adapted to be set in the 1970s instead. It worked rather well. The main male character had an awesome moustache, and was quite masculine... but then, they also adapted the third-act twist so that he...

Re: Imagemap Coordinates

For rectangles I prefer (x, y, w, h) to (x1, y1, x2, y2). But I agree that colourmap would be very nice. (You'd have to warn people against saving them as JPG or some other lossy image format.)
