Re: No one using BMT Micro anymore?

To any devs who use both BMT Micro and other venues (ie, Steam and/or itchi.o), what are the benefits and drawbacks of each? Which would you personally recommend?

Re: A Kinetic VN

As someone who has released a KN (and is still working on others), I think planning ahead of time to decide what you want is a smart approach. But even then, not everything you have in mind is going to be financially feasible (save, perhaps, a Kickstarter miracle, but this is assuming you don't have...

Re: New Year's resolutions and your VN development

My VN resolution is quite simple: GET THAT DAMN ALBATROSS OFF MY NECK. ...By which I mean, finish and publish my projects. And also move my complete one (Colette and Becca) to Steam. Of course, the former will mean allocating the funds and time and programming to finish up the one, and then have to ...

Mind if I link to this on twitter or elsewhere? I might know some people who'd be interested in taking part!

Re: Is this idea STUPID?! // Let's share Visual Novel marketing ideas

The problem with using memes to advertise something is, popularity is fickle. Memes come and go. What's hilarious today might be considered stale ten years from now. Like, if I were to go "I'll take a potato chip...AND EAT IT!", that might get SOME chuckles out of people familiar with the ...

Re: Do you like military?

I'm more interested in fiction that explores the ethics behind the facets of war than I am in something that straight-out glorifies it, and that applies to just about any setting. Works like Spec Ops: The Line or This War of Mine (to use prominent videogame examples). On the fantasy end, I also like...

Re: Having trouble with world building

Try playing around with the characters instead of the world, and see where that takes you. You might accidentally uncover more aspects to this fictional world just by how the characters react to it, or how they talk about it with each other! Let the characters reveal the world to you. Also, you may ...

Re: Research paper about LGBT+ representation in visual novels

Probably won't participate, but if you're looking for any extra resources to consult, I can highly recommend Queerly Represent Me's database: https://queerlyrepresent.me/ Type in "Visual Novel" and see where that takes you. However, even that can be limited in that some of the entries simp...

Re: Fan Translations?

Personally, I would be flattered if anyone wanted to translate my games! I know I've come across real gems I'm dying to understand but can only do so with a not-so-firm grip on a language I barely understand. And think of all the gems we might have never found, that might never have gotten an offici...

Re: where on the interent would fanworks of indie VNs congregate?

I'm not sure where they would, outside of maybe a small Ao3 community. I do know that the Hanako Games likes to feature fanfic and fanart of their games, and sometimes contests. Personally, I think it'd be an awesome idea if we shared fanworks of each other's VN's! We could always start up a website...

Re: Horrified--Games DO need warning labels.

What people are objecting to more is the idea of dismissing something for having an amoral speculative premise and not having an easy "good guy" route, because of misleading advertising (that one's probably not entirely the dev's fault, and could be the fault of the individual reviewer or ...

Re: Horrified--Games DO need warning labels.

...Would it happen to be this game by any chance? And why exactly are these reviewers so terrible for playing this game's premise straight, even if it's an amoral one? At worst, it suggests they might not be imaginative enough to think of other ways to play it, and play with the aim to "win&quo...

Re: Thinking of creating a YT Channel to Read and Support VN's - Good or bad?

That sounds like an awesome idea! I'd say go for it!

Maybe, to expand on the idea of reading different routes, you could make it more viewer-participant by having a small poll over, say, twitter or Facebook about which route to cover?

Re: custom protag yay or nay?

It depends on the kind of VN you're trying to make. Magical Diary allows you to customize the protagonist's appearance and name at the start, whereas Long Live the Queen starts you off with a protagonist whose outfits you can change with the various skills you unlock, but otherwise basically looks t...
