Re: AJAX/Wiki VN engine
Just encode the game state in the url. Web browsers already have the ability to save urls as bookmarks, and urls can easily be copied or emailed if you want to play from a different computer. No need to reinvent the wheel. Hmm, indeed, I haven't thought of bookmarks before... I imagined that using ...

Re: AJAX/Wiki VN engine
Yeah, that would certainly work for shorter VNs (which should be the majority). But whew, I hated that system in those DVD titles by Hirameki. It all depends on how far apart you place the checkpoints IMO. And how long the key you are gonna take... Plus, you don't have to use the ASCII encoding to ...

Re: Most strange reason to stay away from lemmasoft
Well, in my eyes, one thing leads to another and vice versa. As long as we have armies, there will be wars, and as long as there are wars, armies will be needed. It's a kind of vicious circle, though I admit that it was probably a war that got here first and the army was originally a result of it. B...

Re: Most strange reason to stay away from lemmasoft
It's only logical to back off and regroup in the face of an overwhelming force, that's not the running away I was referring to. Army is a bad monster, anyway, speaking of it. One of the worst inventions humanity has ever brought forth IMO. %)

Re: AJAX/Wiki VN engine
You've got a point there. But cookies would eliminate the greatest benefit of an online VN - accessibility. Also, I think it's a bit too... well, unstable or something like that. The user decides to wipe his cookies -> his saves are sent to nirvana without him knowing. An alternative would be downl...

Re: Most strange reason to stay away from lemmasoft
Good for you, that seems to be the solution that had been suggested to me. A number of people had said that I'm too soft. They said I should have made counter threats instead of just enduring them. I'm just saying that if one keeps running, nothing will ever change. At least, in the direction this ...

Re: AJAX/Wiki VN engine
Though you still get problems with saving game data (cookies? session IDs?) but they are manageable, too. I'd just use a login. Cookies wouldn't work, because you'd have to be on the same browser all the time and there's the expiration date. But cookies are HTTP standard and you can renew them, or ...

Re: Most strange reason to stay away from lemmasoft
As I said, it's up to you. But if it were me getting death threats... I'd feel sorry for people sending those. That is, after I'm done with them.

Re: Most strange reason to stay away from lemmasoft
Really? Currently I feel I've lost since I've ended up being traumatised (I don't even dare to work for small/medium sized companies cause chances of them being corrupt is high or at least I believe it to be so, I can't even use tv,radio and newspaper anymore and I sustained serious physical injuri...

Re: AJAX/Wiki VN engine
I think the downside of the browser-based stuff is that you're quite limited in what you can do, at least without a lot of programming. They claim that the engine doesn't require any scripting which is probably an understatement. Programming is required for any kind of software development, period....

Re: Most strange reason to stay away from lemmasoft
Other than that, I feel societies should protect those who doesn't want to be corrupt instead of them being harrassed/tortured. That's a very idealistic notion but unfortunately, society is designed to first and foremost protect itself , not its individual members. In primitive times, it was set up...

Re: Artist for hire
Awesome art! I truly like it. I would really want to ask you to join me in matters of character design for my game but unfortunately, it is still in the very early stages and I don't know whether it'll even make it to the release. But if you are interested in some conspiracy theories and urban fanta...
Re: Guestbook
My name is Daniel, Im located in Berlin/Germany. I am 15 years old and quite interested in any games with good storylines, that's why I got here. I am interested in coding and scripting, but Im still inexperienced. Nevertheless, I have a lot of spare time, and right now Im doing a little project fo...

Re: AJAX/Wiki VN engine
Looks interesting. I've been thinking of designing a web-based VN engine, for some time, since HTML (or better yet, XML) lends itself wonderfully to present text with pictures, plus you can have hyperlinks for dialogue options... Though you still get problems with saving game data (cookies? session ...

Re: Most strange reason to stay away from lemmasoft
Sheesh. How come the uncorrupted becomes the outcast instead of vice versa? Because becoming corrupted doesn't require virtues like sacrifice, self-discipline, patience - virtues many of us find lacking? So, statistically, there are more corrupted people than uncorrupted ones, they are the majority...
