Re: random internet question
Basically, there is a program running on Google servers (called "Google bot") that surfs the internet, opening random webpages (by scanning hyperlinks on the pages it already knows - which is why it's good to have a famous webpage link to your site) and saving their content. The saved cont...

That's would be... slightly overboard. But thanks for the suggestion, I came across many other fun licenses... my favorite atm is Beerware.Inu wrote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Do_What_Th ... ic_License
Modify it to your needs. Rename it.

Re: Quick Question >_<;
That depends on your personal strengths and preferences. I, for example, find developing game engines much easier than actually making games with them.

Which may be a good point to consider developing your own engine that fits your needs. %)killdream wrote:Yep, I know that, but then you'd have to go the other way around when you plan to develop a game that uses VN presentations, either way, you'd have some hard times to code the part that is missing =D

Re: Quick Question >_<;
killdream, it seems you are protecting everyone's right to develop combat-heavy games in Ren'Py, although I, as a matter of fact, didn't even attack it. :) If you want to develop RPGs with an engine originally designed for visual novels, go ahead, it's your call. I am just saying that there are engi...

Re: Quick Question >_<;
I wasn't implying that Ren'Py isn't capable of making just about any kind of game. I won't be surprised if in a decade, it turns into an all-round video game design framework, with an option to install it as your primary operating system. Just look at Eclipse, for example.

The previous post was made before I actually played the game... Man, you really made me cry there. And the music choice is awesome.

Re: [ASK] How to Make a Bussiness Plan for Commercial VN?
Hmm, that's a good question you got there. :D Personally, I've been studying eBusiness for six semesters before we got to the point of making a business plan. ^^ (And our team's plan totally sucked but it was hardly unexpected, as we were doing it for the first time.) And personally, I don't think t...

Re: Licensing your games
But a game is, to begin with, a software o.o A game is a multidisciplinary work, as it combines programming, drawing art, writing, and music. A pure software, for which GPL has been optimized, is a machine code that solves a set of problems, so while it does include the so-called "art of progr...

Re: Quick Question >_<;
I'm not sure the VN format is especially effective for reenacting battles... If you don't want to do anything excessively complex, I'd advice to simply present a battle as a non-linear sequence of choices, with predetermined outcomes. If you make 60-80% of the outcomes fatal, it should provide a cha...

Yay, Slava-tan FTW! ^^ I've been reading about her on the lurkmore.ru some time ago. Hope to see more of the girls in your next projects. ;) Interesting fact: The German capitulation was really confused, and so V-E Day is celebrated on May 8 in the west. The problem was that on the Eastern front, th...

Re: Licensing your games
Normally I would say that if you don't like copyright at all, then by all means release into the public domain, which means you forfeit copyright and no longer have anything to do with it at all. Except it seems you live in Germany, and IIRC there are provisions in German copyright law that you - a...

Licensing your games
The question to fellow developers who already released some games: do you publish your games reserving all copyright rights or under some specific license? You see, I've been studying the topic recently (since I have a reason to believe that my first game will be released this year) and I don't like...

Re: Copyright Infringement?
Also, you can use any characters from public domain works without worrying. If you write a story about a great detective named Sherlock Holmes who faces off against an underseas monster named Cthulhu (say, in a cyberpunk setting), that won't be a copyright infringement, either. %)

Re: VN + text parser = ?
Python's regexp support is... well, pretty much up to Perl. But don't think that the re module will give you a parser for free, the problems lie entirely elsewhere. Could you elaborate on that last part, please? ^^; I see regexes as a good alternative to text parser because basically, all that game...
