Re: Seven Kingdoms [GxB/G][Fantasy, Rom, Politics] *Updated

I am playing the demo and loving the story so far (currently in the third week as a Jiyel scholar)! ^^ I have been wondering about one aspect of the game's design, however: when you fail a skill check, you are informed which exactly skill it was, presumably so you can put it on your To Do list, but ...

Re: time-limited games

If we are speaking only in context of visual novels, I don't see how this is different from any other story branching. ^^ You either pick the story correct path and "win" the chase, or you pick the wrong one and get one of the numerous Bad Ends. In this case, a "time limit" is ju...

Re: Creative ways to get an ending

As I said, I'm an avid RPG fan, so I like playing the odds. ^^ The risk of failure is IMO the most fun part of a game. In fact, the biggest problem I've always had with visual novels is that they boil down to a rather complex yet static Petri net in my brain (which, I admit, was screwed up by three ...

Re: Creative ways to get an ending

Randomized half-endings. The disposition value of each girl determines the probability of ending up with her in the first half of the ending. The computer randomly chooses one girl for you and plays the ending narration right to the point where the protagonist starts thinking of what could have happ...

Re: Yes, even YOU can become a good artist!

And many 'non-artists' instantly assume you're great and VERY talented. Indeed, many non-drawing people see drawing as something mystical and incredibly difficult, whereas once you try, you'll find that drawing is no more complex than handwriting. ^^ Of course, drawing well is as difficult as writi...

Re: Happy endings?

A happy ending is the ending where the protagonist reaches their goal (if there was one) or resolves the main conflict of the story in their favor. If reaching the goal or winning the conflict comes at a great price, it's a bittersweet ending. If they lose the conflict or fail to reach their goal, i...

Re: Yes, even YOU can become a good artist!

Glancing through his thread, I saw him follow pretty much every recommendation I know/have heart for people aspiring to be good artists: - Draw from life (landscapes, objects, people) - Copy (eyeball) works from artist you like/admire (actually eyeballing photos helps a lot too) - Study how things ...

Re: Hints System (Help Anyone)

I have no idea how the object model in Renpy works but I'd try making a persistent singleton collection of "said line" objects and .add() hints to it as they come... Then output them in some modal GUI element, which I also have very little knowledge of... Admittedly, that's not much help. :?

Re: Do you have any (PC) recommendation?

Simon Tatham's puzzles are THE time killer of my choice. The best thing about them is that they are available for almost any platform... Grab them here if you're interested: http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/puzzles/

Re: Relationships are a series of complex games

A game is an activity where you put a non-critical amount of personal resources for the thrill of either losing them or winning more. Such attitude to relationships occurs to me as too irresponsible, but it may be my personal ineptitude at building relationships that's speaking there. ^^ However, I ...

Or you just use a digital dice thrower, which lets you cast dice like 1d7 and 2d23. :D

Re: using emotions as dialogue choices?

@ Koveras Not necessarily. You can turn a situation in which as a player, if you select one emotion, the NPC can reply by saying they don't get what you're trying to "say". It's a standard trick in RPGs where if you select one choice, they steer you back to the only choice you can select ...

Re: using emotions as dialogue choices?

Fahrenheit! I love Fahrenheit! That is GREAT game and so is Ico and my poor PS2 doesn't work anymore. Don't you push arrow directions to select choices? I played it on the PC, so I just used the mouse... Although I did play it with a USB controller once, and IIRC you have to move the control sticks...
