Re: Should we be encouraging?

What I mean by hobbyists being hurt is the ability for them to be able to create games. There are a good number who can't afford 100 dollar single sprite. I am one of them. Should we be limited from a certain style just because we're not rich? No. Should we try to pay cheaply? No. Like I said I kno...

Re: Should we be encouraging?

Also there are professionals on here, but they just don't have massive high prices like the ones your saying. Remember that talk about "Brand"? That decides prices too. There's a price tag that comes with "People will check out your work because my name is on it", and that price...

Re: Should we be encouraging?

So, who gets to put the bell around the cat? Who here in Lemmasoft is willing to shell out five digit figures for a five-star asset like Noizi Ito or gain rights to stories from bestselling authors? Because what it takes to bring them here -is- someone from here to hire them and put them into the R...

Re: Should we be encouraging?

Sky rocketing prices will definitely hurt those who make vn's just for fun. This is a contradiction. If gamedev is your hobby, then you will make money to support your hobby, not the other way around. In all honesty paying 75 dollars for a half body sprite is a bit pricy. I'd likely only get a few ...

Re: Should we be encouraging?

I do think it's important to have professional people here in all mediums however my problem with this is the fact the sky rocketing prices will definitely hurt those who make vn's just for fun. I'm not saying prices should be low at all, but I think some type of balance is needed. Also, as I've sai...

Re: Should we be encouraging?

Also I think artist should have two sections, prices for free vn's and prices for commercial vn's. I've seen at least three people on here have that and it's pretty fair. I agree, I personally love it when I see artists use this technique for pricing. The problem is that there are a number of creat...

Re: Should we be encouraging?

The problem is that there are a number of creators who say, "I'm making an amateur game, so I should only have to pay amateur prices"--but they want professional level art. There are all sorts of amateur artists here who will make art for free...but that art isn't good enough for them. I ...

Re: Should we be encouraging?

"Now I know someone's going to say 'save up if you want to make a vn,' but life isn't that simple." Don't worry, that's not what I'm getting at. Obviously, I agree with the whole "keep the prices fair", obviously, it would hurt the artist community if no one wanted to commission...

Re: Should we be encouraging?

It's true some artists do undercharge themselves and I think they should price there work enough so they can have some food money and income. My problem is though, for EVN's, it's very hard to make a living, so I don't think artists should go in thinking they'll make super amounts of money with vn's...

Re: Commissioning Problem

Yes, that is exactly true. The best thing to do is to find an artist who will take your project seriously and want to see it come to life. Not only do it for the money. I don't know. I think I'd rather have an excellent, professional artist who is doing it for the money...and who therefore will do ...

Re: Commissioning Problem

Hmmm, I agree we need to encourage reviews/recommendations a bit more. I understand how excruciatingly PAINFUL is the wait for assets to arrive. As days go by your mind starts to become your worst enemy: "What is he/she doing!? What's going on? Maybe this, maybe that". All that theorizing...

Re: Commissioning Problem

I would recommend paying for assets piecemeal instead of in bundles (sounds like you're trying to pay for a lot of assets all at once) and also making only partial payments (30% to 50%) before receiving any work. This. I strongly recommend you get all the terms of your dealings in writing, includin...

Re: Commissioning Problem

That's very true. Problem with her is she has already paid 500 dollars for her game =(. She told me her artist did a good job of responding and telling her what's going on, but now her won't respond often and she doesn't know if he's sticking with her. If I've got the details right, that means your...

Re: Commissioning Problem

Trooper6 is right. I did forget to mention she gave me something but four months later. This was the one that didn't give me a reply though for the longest time and I didn't know if she was still with me. Eventually I had to drop her because she wasn't reliable =(. And maybe I will in the near futu...
