To be honest, I thought I was going to hate having the battles added into the game. The first battle between Gerald and the two zombie things was interesting to figure out how to use, but it seemed to take away from the introduction. I lean more towards visual novel as far as game play, but those are hard to find. A dating sim is fun as well. I like either as long as the story makes sense and I love it when the game is well - written.
