Re: Genre as a spoiler
Definetely you cannot clasify LOTR like Game of Thrones even when they both have a similar diction. No. The diction in Lord of the Rings focuses the reader on the rich lore and glorifies the traditions and fantastical elements of Middle Earth. The diction in Game of Thrones focuses the reader on th...

Re: Genre as a spoiler
I can write out the exact same plot three times without changing a single fact. Using purely alterations in diction, I can change the entire feel and focus of the story. The same sequence of events can be a love story, a comedy, or a social commentary. Of course it would be all three regardless, but...

Re: Genre as a spoiler
What decides the genre is not the facts, but the way in which the facts are presented. Therefore, in the example of "magic" being alien technology...as long as the bulk of the story focuses on it being "magic" then it is Fantasy, not sci-fi. For example, take the story of Utaware...

Re: Switching from 1st to 3rd person.
Typically VNs are written in the first-person because you are immersing the player into the role of the protagonist. It is a unique advantage to VNs because they require some interaction and provide you with a specific, logical stimulus in response. Writing in third-person breaks that immersion. You...

Secondly, about the crowdfunding, that's not to make the game happen. That's to make the game better. Wouldn't you want to be able to raise money to to hire professional services to offer an amazing, free game to players? You can always do what I'm doing. Make placeholders to use in place of resour...

Re: Are these acceptable places to put foreshadowing?
I wouldn't put any foreshadowing that is necessary for the sequence of events to make sense somewhere where the reader may never see it. That is, unless you are planning on doing a perspective shift and retelling the story until it does make sense. Just because you are working with a VN doesn't mean...

Re: Porting visual novels to the iPad
The 12/20% per-sale comes from tech support agreements we have negotiated where I work. That much has nothing to do with porting the application. NDAs prohibit me from giving exact numbers or sources, so I'm afraid I can't prove that, so take it how you will. The act of porting something warrants a ...

Re: Detective Butler EP1 [KN][Murder Mystery]
The OSX problems are probably caused by issues with the built-in PNG library from the OS. It can be worked around by building SDL_image against libpng instead of the OS version and then linking ONScripter to that build of SDL_image. As for Linux, ONScripter has builds for that as well. It should be ...

Re: Porting visual novels to the iPad
So here's the deal: I will use my engine to bring your visual novels to the iPad. You are the one to decide how they are released: As free apps with advertisements or as paid apps. All revenue will be shared equally between you, the artist(s) and me the developer/publisher. To put it in laymen's te...

Re: What do people misunderstands about you?
I'm kind of a bitch when people waste my time at work. That doesn't really translate to my personal life. If I don't sound sincere its probably more embarrassment than anything. If I don't have something nice to say you probably won't get anything out of me. If I even bother to comment it means you ...

Re: Psychotic Characterization
There is always the old fallback...make the psychopath mutter what they are thinking. It may sound cliche, but it still works if done well. Support it with some distorted imagery and you add a creepy feel to it that is kind of a tip-off as well. Overall, though, it depends on what "kind" o...

Re: $5 Composer for Hire
I would recommend not giving a per-track rate, as you would be charging the same fee for 30 seconds or 20 minutes of music. There is a lot of potential for abuse there. If you want to stick to this rate, make sure you get details of how much you will be expected to do before agreeing to anything.

Re: Seeking idea bouncer and consultants (When the Bells Tol
I am very familiar with "Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni" having read through every chapter at least twice. I also managed to get through several chapters of Umineko before I burned out on it. I'm usually happy to bounce ideas with people and I work well with twisted and dark themes. If I had to...

Re: Seeking Team Members for long-term project - Archaelia
If the game goes commercial and there was no funding received for it, then those who worked on it will likely receive a percentage of the profits. I'm certainly not out to screw anyone over! Might I suggest working out an arrangement that is more practical? Giving a percentage of sales is a *lot* o...
