Re: Are there any creator that manages to live off of their Visual Novels output? If yes, who?
Remember to account for the split within the team and up to 50% split with the publisher (some indie game publishers take 50%, but maybe Sekai Project is more generous, I'm not sure). Just as a note, while some publishers may take 50%, I'd be vary about taking a deal like that. From what I've under...

Re: Fresh dev, artist first
I started out with an art background (drawing as a hobby since I was a kind, then went to an art-focused high school, etc) but it's surprisingly fast to get to a point where you can make a visual novel with Renpy. I think the difficulty level of your project depends on what you want out of it A LOT....

Re: Debating whether trying to publish on steam is worth the hassle
Steam is a hassle, but in my experience, the vast majority of my sales come from Steam. Your royal gayness has around 200 downloads on itch, and more than 10x that amount on Steam. Steam takes a bigger cut from the revenue, but it still generates way more money for me than itch. But then again, Love...

Need voice actors for Lovingly Evil (Closed!)
Hi, I'm Salli "Aviala" Loikkanen and I'm the founder of the indie game studio Lizard Hazard Games. We've previously released two games: Your Royal Gayness and LoveBug. We're currently looking for voice actors for our next game. Lovingly Evil is a game where you create a villain character a...

Re: Is 1920x1080 is a good resolution?
In my opinion, 1920x1080 is the MINIMUM resolution you should make your game in. Most people have full HD screens, and more and more people are starting to have 4k screens. If you're only making your game for mobile and storage space is an issue, then a smaller resolution might be ok, but if you're ...

Looking for a minigame coder for Lovingly Evil
Hi, coders! I'm the founder of Lizard Hazard Games (previous games include Your Royal Gayness and LoveBug) and we're currently making a humorous dating sim called Lovingly Evil, where the player gets to visit the Villain Conference (V-Con) and possibly date the villains they meet there. The game wil...

Re: How much did you make from your first game?
Your Royal Gayness has sold around 3000 copies so far. It's usually priced at 15 USD but it's been sale for -50% multiple times. The game has been out for about one and a half years now. I'm not allowed to share the exact numbers, but you can make an estimation on the profits based on the info above...

Re: Does Kickstarter funding work?
I did a kickstarter for Your Royal Gayness in 2017 and as others have mentioned, it was a ton of work! Before the campaign I did a lot of research on what makes a KS campaign successful. We created a pretty high quality video using my university's filming equipment, made special graphics, gathered a...

Many people use Twine to map out branching choices. You could look into it, it's pretty easy to use.

Re: Some questions and advice on attempting my first visual novel
This leads to my question as to how you guys write your stories? Not the creative aspect, but, how do you organize it? Is there a way of formatting it that will make the coding easier later on? It's actually rather easy to code a story in Ren'Py. As an example, I have been writing my story directly...

Re: Some questions and advice on attempting my first visual novel
You should probably consider writing your text into a format that renpy can understand right away. Like so: mc "Hello! I'm the main character!" a "Hello! I'm a character whose name starts with an a!" So basically you give each character a short, unique tag (one or two letters is ...

Re: Deleting choices automatically after they have been chosen
I tried searching a lot before I came up with my solution and I never encountered the set functionality OTL Well, I need some choices to stay permanently anyway so I guess I'll still use my solution. Good to know about the set functionality for future reference, I might need it for some future proje...

Re: Deleting choices automatically after they have been chosen
How does this work? Like, what's the logic here? I'm self-taught when it comes to renpy coding so I don't always understand how other people's code works. I just wanted to share a solution that worked for me, but if there are better ways to do it, that's great! Why not let the regular menu do it for...
