Re: Story of Dream Infinite [Comedy][Fantasy] DOWNLOAD BETA

Just as an update (if anyone's still interested at all), I'm going to try to get the final version out before the new school semester starts, which for me is January 14th. I probably won't release the Mac/Linux versions of the beta after all. While I intended to get out my old Mac and install a Linu...

Re: Story of Dream Infinite [Comedy][Fantasy] DOWNLOAD BETA

Played the beta, and wow, I loved it. I'd actually been waiting for the game to come out on Thanksgiving, so I'm glad I got to play it now. :D Thanks! I am actually shocked that anyone was waiting for the game to come out. I didn't think anyone was really paying attention ^_^;; Sorry it was late......

Re: Story of Dream Infinite [Comedy][Fantasy] DOWNLOAD BETA

For now I've decided to release the game as an open beta, since I'm not 100% sure it's finished. You can download it at cesullivangames.com/sodi . Right now, only the Windows version is available, but I'm going to try to have the Mac and Linux versions up tomorrow--Is just didn't want to put them up...

Minigame: Renpygame or creator-defined displayable?

So, I haven't done much "real" programming in a while, to be honest (recently, I've just been using scripting languages for various little things). I want to try my hand at making a mini-game, but I'm feeling a little overwhelmed just looking at the documentation... First of all, I'm reall...

Re: Need words related to JRPGs which start with "B"

Thanks! It really does help. I'd forgotten there was a blue mage class in FF...I think I might use that. I'll have to give you a "special thanks" in the credits of my game...that goes for anyone else who can help with this, as well ^_^ (I'll use your forum name--so just let me know if you ...

Need words related to JRPGs which start with "B"

I know this is a strange request, but I need to come up with words that are JRPG related which begin with the letter B. They can be titles of games, character names, production companies, item names, attack names...anything like that. Just don't ask me why. However, if you play my (free) game when i...

Re: Can't write a novel.....

Depending on what kind of story you want to write, you might want to experiment with a known story telling pattern/formula (like "the hero's journey"). Not saying you have to stick strictly to the formula, though. I think formulas work especially well when you deviate from them...all has t...

Re: What is your specialized genre?

I tend to write comedy-fantasy-romances. 'Cuz when you think about it, all real life romances have elements of comedy and fantasy.

Although usually more comedy than fantasy, in my experience. And it's usually dark comedy.

Re: What was your first story?

I've been writing stories since I was very little, but I have a terrible memory, so the first one I actually remember well was a story I wrote in 9th grade, which won first place in a high school writing contest sponsored by the local community college. I ended up getting the same story published in...

Yeah, I know, I'm totally OCD.

Re: A story with characters VS. characters with a story

Determine what it is your characters want and then deny them that. Apparently, that's what plot is. But then, it's after 3 am and I'm just regurgitating something I saw in a prezi my interactive narrative instructor used in class ;P

Does anyone have an opinion on Oxford (serial) commas?

This may be a really weird place to ask this, but... They come in apple, pear, and banana flavors. They come in apple, pear and banana flavors. The comma that I dropped in the second sentence is known as the Oxford or serial comma. When I was in middle/high school I was taught to drop the Oxford com...

Re: Line Between "Informative" and "Preaching"

This is a good question. Generally, preaching works best when you're "preaching to the choir," i.e. communicating with those who already agree with you--even MLK's "I Have a Dream" speech was more of a rallying cry for those already inclined to join the civil rights movement than...

Re: Could I get some critique on my opening

This is interesting. I like that you don't give a lot of exposition before you get to the hook, and I can tell that even though you're not telling us everything upfront, you know who your characters are. (Although hopefully, you will be telling us more about them over the course of the story.) I kno...
