Ok, it isn't perfect but it should at least give you some ideas on how you can color hair digitally. Try adding a few loose strands of hair here and there----it'll make the overall appearance of the hair less stiff.

I could show you a couple of ways I like to color black hair, do you have any sprites/characters already drawn & inked? Or is this the only image you have?
