Re: Does anyone have an opinion on Oxford (serial) commas?

Who gives a f*ck about an Oxford comma?

But seriously, sometimes the Oxford comma is very useful, the following picture demonstrates that.

Most of the time it is redundant though.

Re: Line Between "Informative" and "Preaching"

To educate a person an audience about a certain issue is to make them aware of the issue, including aspects of the issue which they were unaware of. To preach to a person is to try and insist that your opinion on the issue is definitively correct. You can avoid being preachy by showing the entire sp...

Re: Ideas Dump

Well, the hardest thing to write about is probably time travel due to the many changes involved. It sounds like it will be tricky  The problem is, no one ever seems to get it right. Every story which features time travel always seems to have some major plot hole or inconsistency. The only exce...

Re: Requesting advice: I want to turn my story into a VN

500k is a lot, that's about 5 novels worth. You might be "Able" to write that much, but your story might end up being overly long and boring to read. You should make sure you can write a novel length VN before going on to create one that's larger. Or, release it in installments rather tha...

Do you feel cheated if choices do not affect the ending?

In the game I am currently working on, the player will make a large number of choices throughout the game. The choices the player makes will cause them to experience vastly different stories. However, by the end all plot will converge and you will experience the same ending regardless. However, the ...

Re: Requesting advice: I want to turn my story into a VN

Hey folks, I'm updating this thread as I need a bit more advice. I am currently using twine to organise the plot structure on my VN, I am also using Ren'Py to write out the script for my VN, currently I'm using free backgrounds and sprites I can find on the web, to create a prototype of the first pa...

Re: Ideas Dump

I have no intention, at the moment, to turn the following idea into visual novel as I'm currently working on something else. Still I think it would be quite a cool idea for an Romance game. The protagonist (male) is a member of the Temple of Time, a holy order tasked with ensuring the temporal event...

Re: Upcoming movies you're looking forward to?

I just found out that the new Madoka Magica movie will be playing in my local movie theater! Squeeee!!! :D I thought the story ended perfectly and didn't really need any expansion, but I'm still really, really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, I'll probably have to avoid looking up anything rel...

Marketing a western visual novel in Japan

I was wondering if any VN creators have attempted to translate their work in Japanese and market it in Japan? Obviously, the market in Japan is a lot more substantial than in the West so this seems like a logical step if you are aiming to make a significant profit from a visual novel. What are the b...

Re: Requesting advice: I want to turn my story into a VN

You could always use Twine as a organiser only. Which means that you can use it to visualise how the plot changes with interaction, but fill the boxes only with summaries. (This is more to help yourself plotting than to show others--though it's possible.) Also, Ren'Py is easier than you think. &quo...

Re: Developing linguistic skills

I do understand your problem, unfortunately I am a native English speaker and I have never attempted to write outside of my native language, it would probably be better to get advice from someone in a similar situation to you. Despite that, I genuinely cannot think of any better way of improving ove...

Re: Requesting advice: I want to turn my story into a VN

My game was fairly text heavy too, I rebuilding it on Ren'Py is its own challenge as some bits have been divided and altered in order to get it to work there. Looking forward to your story! Sorry, I phrased what I wrote incorrectly. I meant that my game would have a lot less interaction o...

Re: Developing linguistic skills

I would highly recommend reading certain works of fiction to be the best way to improve your vocabulary. First establish the kind of personality you want your character to have, then try to find a character in a piece of literature which embodies those characteristics. For example, whenever I am try...

Re: Requesting advice: I want to turn my story into a VN

Thanks asatiir. I just tried playing your game, within the walls, it was very enjoyable (but I got three game overs within three minutes...), I will make a serious attempt at completing it when I get the time. I see the appeal in using twine to make a prototype of my game, one of the key difference ...
