Re: Male hairstyle

Something that I do is find some photos of male characters/actors with different haircuts for reference (I learned recently that this is called a "swipe folder"). Then I use those references to draw variations of different haircuts and hairstyles. If the game is set during a certain time period (195...

Re: Minimizing extra writing

I've begun using a story grid to plot out my visual novels. Basically, you divide different characters/arcs/plot points into different columns, and divide each chapter or scene in rows. The link above uses one of JK Rowling's story grids as an example. It's useful because you have to take every even...

Re: How do you distribute your games via crowdfunding?

itch.io also allows you to distribute Kickstarter digital rewards. I'm using itch.io to showcase some of my games, and I highly recommend itch.io, but I've never used it for distributing crowdfunding rewards (so I don't have any experience on that), but the article I've linked above has step-by-step...

Re: Font talk/reccomendation request

Font Squirrel is a great site because it only lists fonts that are free to use (meaning, "freeware [fonts that are] licensed for commercial work"), it has a ton of searchable tags/categories, and it has an image search program that lets you upload screenshots to identify what font it is (in case yo...

Ren'Py VNs that Use Multi-Game Persistent Data?

I'm looking for examples of Ren'Py-made visual novels that use persistent data that goes from one game to another (like an episodic series). Meaning, you make choices in the first game, and those choices affect the second game, etc.

Any examples out there?

Re: The Heart of Tales [GxB/Fantasy] SuNoFes 2017

Lastly, I was wondering at the main menu screen their silhouettes appear, and one of them is unrecognizable. The one with the horns and wings. I thought he may be the demon but the demon is different, I think. Or am I right? Thank you so much for your thoughts! To answer your question, I can confir...

Re: Thinking of creating a YT Channel to Read and Support VN's - Good or bad?

Sounds good to me. I think the biggest challenge would be consistency (how many videos you'd post a week) and juggling between games. Maybe if you plan on playing longer games, you can try just playing the beginning of them?

[Solved] Naming the Character Input Issue

I'm trying to figure out how to let the player choose the characters name. I want to make it so that if the player inputs the name "Hero" OR "Hiro," it's changed to, say, Hana. If they pick "Moo" or "Jane," that results in other name changes. I currently have as the code: label start: $ name = renpy...

I use Editra, but I set the text colours to "Dessert" (Under topbar menu --> Tools --> Style Editor), so that it's less bright and easier to read for long periods of time.

Re: Trying for noir-ish vibe. Opinions and suggestions welcomed.

I've been studying noir art lately, so I can give you some notes I have. Noir uses a certain type of lighting called Chiaroscuro . Another term to use when searching for reference is "hard lighting." It's the total opposite of "soft lighting;" hard lighting creates the effect of shadows and strokes ...
