Re: Because We're Here [GxB] [War] [Dark Comedy] [Historical
The biggest thing for the OP to keep in mind is that the defeat of the Central Powers led to an economic depression and, for Germany in particular, a feeling of humiliation that contributed to Nazism. The reparations forced upon Germany in the wake of WW1 by the victorious Allies led to the economi...

Re: Alternative to First Person visual novels
Kinetic novels can do whatver they want , it's getting third person to feel natural with choices that's proving awkward. When you say setting, I'm assuming you mean plot-driven stories, where there's a lot about the world to describe. Instead of maybe dating games, where the only goal is roman...

Detective stories focus more on the character, mysteries focus more on the mystery. Something to be aware of

My fault, I really was sleeping during those times when I should have been working. I'm still writing the script though (it might morph into a larger project) and I'm really happy to have earnt Anne's cute badge (silver linings everywhere.)

Re: Different types of gameplay in VNs - What is your favori
The reason there's such confusion between VNs and other genres is because genre tags usually give information about a game's gameplay characteristics , whereas a VN is a tag denoting a specific kind of storytelling technique. Take adventure games and visual novels for example. An adventure game is t...

Re: Who runs VN Review sites?
I'd make sure your analysis is watertight (or as watertight as you can make it,) and try and make the best games you possibly can. Also be aware that the internet is a childish and hostile place. Even published authors cop a lot of flak when they publicly criticise another's work, so once again it's...

That was a pretty awesome post, and I'm disappointed there's no "like" button on Lemma.

Re: Strong characters, but weak plot?
How do make my plot stronger? Furthermore, how do I find a balance between plot and characters? Or is it okay that my plot isn't gripping, as long as I have strong, well-developed characters? Point number 1: If you want a stronger plot, try only including scenes which move the story forward and cut...

Re: Visual Novel writing style
Well, briefly (because these are pretty clichéd pieces of writing advice, and I don’t like dispensing clichéd pieces of writing advice) it means the writer has trouble getting across a vivid image with their prose. They focus on the visual sense nearly exclusively, and not sound, smell or touch so t...

Re: Visual Novel writing style
There IS a difference between the writers, it IS a question of style, it's NOT a question of tense. Writer 2 tries to describe scenes but weaknesses in their prose limit the effect. E.g. use of tell, only one sense, adjectives yada yada. Writer 1 cunningly gets around this... by not describing much ...

2. "How do you categorize it?" If there's no easy way to compare it with existing media, it's tough to sell. I had this concern recently with Herald . It sounds promising. But I'm not sure how to describe it, except with the catch-all phrase "indie game." Herald is an adventure/...

Re: Telltale Games (The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, etc
Also “Choose Your Own Adventure” books were dubbed “gamebooks” back in the day further which reinforces your point. People do tend to complain too much though.
But the thing to keep in mind is this - the more The Walking Dead gets tied to Visual Novels, the more publicity for our little medium :3
